I loved this hostle you can do as much or as little as you like. from hiking and canyoning to oversized chess, pool , fussball. It has a great big lounge or a more intimate verandah. Staff are really friendly .. great mix of guests. Facilities were top notch, a huge kitchen which was spotless as were the bedrooms and bathrooms.

Lots of space in common areas - great facilities -- just does lack a little atmosphere. Still if you are intent on getting out into the Blue mountains then it is a superb base. Supermarket (Coles) which is open till midnight is 50m away and the bottleshop even closer.

This hostel has won awards in the past and it's not hard to see why, as the dorms and facilities are very good. My only quibble on that score was the surprisingly small number of washing machines and driers, given the size of the hostel. There's an enormous lounge area which is very comfortable but is maybe so large that it inhibits people's interaction with each other - there wasn't much of a sociable atmosphere, though that's quite common in YHAs. I would stay here again.

This award winning renovated hostel is well worth your time to train it up from Sydney. An easy 2 hour ride through the scenic Blue Mountains the hostel is located about 1km down hill from the station. It started life as a guest house in the 1930's & has been renovated by YHA to a high standard. You can even lounge in the former ball room. It gets foggy & wet some times but the central heating makes up for it and the area is full of cafes with good coffee. Don't forget to try out the local eco walks or if you are less fit check out the Sky rider and the cable car rides down to the board walk on the valley floor. The hostel has all the mod cons & a good mix of local & international guests. It has good security features & a large share kitchen. It's a couple of km walk from the 3 Sisters. If you like art house movies look up the Mt Vic flicks 20 mins further up the train line.

I am not a real fan of YHA, because some Backpckers have more for less, but this one is just groovy. Great staff, good facilities, clean, bit noisy but great location. Really nice renovated building. Check the guestbook of the people who dated their mates in the 40's and came back. Some got even married right there. The building was a dancing palace in the 40's. If I am in Katoomba again, I will definetely come back.

Really enjoyed our stay here in a double ensuite. The rooms have heaters in the bedroom & ensuite which is handy in the winter months. The staff were very friendly and the ambiance is cozy. The hostel is also a nice walk away from the train station and the major sites.

I cannot add much to the comments of the other reviewers on here other than to say that this is the best YHA I stayed in during my 10 months trekking around Australia. It is immaculate, equipped with all the usual facilities. The kitchen is large, there are plenty of places to sit and eat or socialise, which in many hostels there are not, and its well located for exploring the fantastic Blue Mountains, a must see for any visitor to Australia.

I'll admit that I'm not necessarily the biggest YHA fan, but this one is a corker! Excellent facilities, great character, friendly staff and just a much more personal atmosphere than a lot of the large city YHAs. The lounge/dining room is huge and has awesome tables, sofas and chairs, plus a cute little stage area where you can jam on a free guitar loaned out from the front desk...we had quite a good time entertaining the other diners! Rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable, and the outdoor areas were fantastic. A perfect place to spend a few days taking in the fresh mountain air and gorgeous views. For a little break, make sure to check out the Aquatic Centre nearby where you can use the pool, sauna and spa facilities for $7.50 - just ask reception and they'll point you in the right direction.

This is a fantastic YHA with nice clean facilities, huge kitchen, pool table, roof terrace and a lovely big lounge with couches, beanbags and log fire! Its close to a supermarket, bottle shop and the Three Sisters of course.Staff are very helpful too. Not as "clinical" as some YHAs are.
