Pros: Very much like being part of a family.
Cons: None, but Katoomba can get some serious rain!

This is by far the best hostel I've been to so far. I was going to stay for just 2 nights and I ended up staying 6 nights. I would have stayed longer if I had more vacation days! Great atmosphere, super friendly, cozy, just great!! I loved this small hostel! You'll feel at home, for sure. If you want to have a great time, meet great people, and enjoy the Blue Mountains, just come to the Flying Fox! Believe me, this place is magical. As I read on the guest book: You might check out, but you never leave. It's so true!

Best to see and experience this place at the end of your trip, because it's all down hill from here. They should bottle whatever these guys are doing, because they have the formula for how to run a great Hostel. Most Hostels have become factories, designed to give you as little as possible and suck your money dry. This is a throw back to when Hostels were what they were supposed to be, small family run places to relax and meet people. I could go on for ages about the best dorms and double rooms you will find and artwork and free musical instruments and free breakfast and chill out hut but I have to catch a train, so just have a look for yourself fellow travellers, you'll love it.

Having booked our hostel for over the period between christmas and new year, provided a deposit via credit card, and provided a mobile phone contact in case there were any issues, we drove up from Sydney to enjoy our stay. When we rang the bell and got greeteed by one of the most hostile people we had come across in the form of the owner, Russ, we were immediately put in edge. We were then informed that our spot had been cancelled and they were full. Having driven from Sydney in good faith, and knowing that everywhere else in the are was booked out, you can imagine how diestressing this was. We explained our situation, and asked why he had not contacted us, and he said he didn't care and we needed to get off his property. His attitude was hostile, rude and very unpleasant. When you spply a credit card deposit, and phione details, I am unsure exactly what we had to do, and quite why we had to be treated with such hostility when all we wanted was a bed for the night. I urge people to avoid this place. They spend all their money on advertising knowing that once people arrive, its too late to then complain and move on. Don't fall for the advertising, please. There are plenty of other options in the area, don't waste your time with this horrible place.

I had a lot of fun staying at The Flying Fox. There's an outdoor fire in the evenings and everyone hangs out and chats. Everything about this place is uber-comfortable. There's even a hammock outside. And there's always good music playing. I ended up staying longer than I planned to because I felt so at home. I recommend this place.

A Friendly and cosy place with a log fire in the lounge. The owner (Ross) has lots of info on the best walks in the area and quite often does a cheap BBQ in the evening. Lots more atmosphere than the bigger hostels that I've stayed in and the bedrooms and kitchens are clean and tidy. A great place to stay when exploring the Blue Mountains.

This is absolutely the best hostel I've stayed in during my 10 months in Australia. The atmosphere is nice and the owners want all there guests the best! The location is great and there is a wonderful and cheap fruit/vegetable shop next door.
