BUG Review
Katoomba Mountain Lodge is a big old building tucked behind the main street. It has a pretty good atmosphere but it feels dated with old furniture and old fashioned décor. Amenities include a couple of kitchens; and a games room with table tennis and two TV lounges, both lounges have fireplaces and one has a piano. There is also big veranda at the front of the building with lovely views of the mountains.
Price Dorm bed $18-20 Single room $42-48 Double/twin room $58-68 Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

Pros:
Friendly, cheap, middle of town, barbeque place, big balcony, big dinning + tv room, chimney, etc.
Cons:
We would like to place this hostel to the see, or at least to have a pool and a bigger kitchen.

I lived in the Katoomba Mountain Lodge seven weeks. Went there two times. Spend christmas and new year's eve there. I love this hostel because you can walk to every place in the town. The supermarkets, cafes, tourist information, train+bus station are just around the corner. Also the Three Sisters and Eco Point are down the street. From the balcony you get a great view.
In the evening you easily can walk to the pubs or the cinema, or just watch tv, drink some beer and chat with the other guests in the big comfortable tv-rooms.

This place is the real mountain lodge experience, just 2 hours by train from Sydney. It's cheap an close to everything.
That's what every backpacker wants! It's not in the Lonely Planet, but it should.
Don't miss it!

Friendly, comfortable, just like home, October 12, 2006
Katoomba mountain lodge is a historic character building with many rooms and social areas. It is freindly and has the feeling of a home away from home at christmas. There are warm fires and two living/tv areas. There are also nice sundeck areas for relaxing with great views. The hostel is right in the middle of katoomba town and close to the train station and bus station. The hostel is kept very clean and is always full of freindly faces. The hostel is safe and secure and you get free internet and tea and coffee. Its really good value too and we have stayed much longer than we planned to. We stayed here seven years ago and came back in 2006- we still think it is the best in town.
Pros:
good location, clean factilies, free internet and e-mail.
Cons:
NO oil and salt in kitchen

We had a lovely relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of busy Sydney in the Katoomba Mountain Lodge , which is perfectly situated just minutes walk from the station, main shopping precinct and local ammenities. The lodge management were friendly and helpful, making us feel extremely welcome. The hostel is crumbling but full of charm and character. Rooms were clean and tidy with added extras such as working fireplaces in cosy tv rooms. The free internet was an added bonus and electric blankets made our stay all the more comfortable and homely. This hostel is definitely worth visiting for the cheap prices if nothing else. Thanks Katoomba Mountain Lodge
