BUG Review
Number 14 is a small hostel in a tastefully decorated cute old wooden house with nice polished floorboards and a cosy atmosphere. Accommodation is in mostly double and twin rooms but there are also a few small dormitories. Facilities include a cosy lounge plus a kitchen and there is also a nice shady veranda. It is about a 10-minute walk to the town centre.
Price Dorm bed $22-25 Double/twin bed $59-69 Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
Pros:
Really small and cozy - felt like a home! Quiet so you'll get a good night's sleep :)
Cons:
No internet access and no soap in the bathrooms

Lovely place!! One of the best hostels I've seen, I highly recommend staying here. Cozy kitchen/lounge with super comfy couches and a fireplace. Smaller lounge area with book exchange and plenty of trashy magazines to keep you entertained! Central Heating, beds are really comfy and dorm room was a good size (2 beds and 1 set of bunks). Well equipped kitchen with free tea & coffee.
Pros:
peaceful
Cons:
bathroom very cold (no heating)

Had a great stay at this hostel. The owners are very nice and helpful, giving you advice for hikes...
If you're looking for a quiet place to stay, it's the place to go (10 minute walk to the city centre)

It is a very warm and welcoming place, unique 'historic' building, clean, friendly people. Close to train station and shops. The rooms are really nice, and $22 a dorm in this tourist area is a very good price. They got central heating, something you like if you are in the mountains. I really liked the place and will come back if I go to the mountains again. If you're coming on the weekend make sure you book in advance, because the sydneyers like the place for the weekend hiking.

After spending a month in Sydney this place was the perfect antidote. It is small enough to meet some nice people, has wonderful areas for sitting and relaxing and a great kitchen. Our room was upstairs and had lovely views over the valley. We also had a late train to catch and the very friendly owner let us leave our bags and use all the facilities for free!We are going back at Christmas!!

We stayed in a dozen hostels in Oz and this was definitely one of the best. The people were friendly. The place had character (down to antique door keys and binders filled with reviews of other hostels). The place was super clean. We stayed in the en-suite room, which was only a few dollars more, but extra spacious. One note: The place is best for people who want a low-key, quiet place. There's no TV, video games or hot tub.

Just what you need after the hustle of the city, laid back atmosphere, clean, comfy beds, and nice deck to chill out on. (watch the spiders though!:) staff where exceptionally friendly and gave great tips on which walks to do, not a 'party' hostel but a great place to meet people and detox. Rooms aren't too sound proof but if you exhaust yourself enough tramping during the day you'll sleep through anything!

It's a really loving place to stay. Highly recommended. Very basic rooms. The kitchen can get a bit crowded though during dinner time. However, it's fully equipped and the whole place is very clean. A very quiet place and you will find yourself walking lightly and talking in whispers so as not to disturb the peace! We really enjoyed our stay there so much that we went back to it again two days later to chill-out after a long drive inland.

I came back to this hostel as I remember it being so homely. Unfortunately, we were in room 4, next to the kitchen and you're sleep is so very disturbed: there may as well not be a wall there. Rooms are basic and bare and pillows so flat.

I spent my last weekend in katoomba, found out about this hostel by accident- and was really very surprised, how clean, comfortable, heartily a backpacker can be, after what I had experienced at bondi beach..it's a really perfect place to stay if you aren't addicted to partying- it's quite calm and you can meet some quite interesting people, staff is really helpful and kind, too. absolutely recommendable!!!
