Double room $63-80

After reading these reviews i thought. I would venture across to stockton.

Carrying you bags on the ferry and then to the hostel is not my idea of fun.

The place is very very clean. To the extent that if you leave random crubs ( I am talking say two) then be prepared to be told of like you living with your parents.

This is not the only thing the Manger will comment on if you sleep late he will comment on it. Also he is every where which can make it hard for you to relax.

The man made so many rude coments, to such an extent I had to cut my trip short I felt so uncomfortable.

Also be prepared this hostel is now aimed at people who want long term accommodation.

It does have some lovely facilities. It a shame that the manager is so appalling. Also the lack of backpackers take away some of the experience.

There is a reason this place has only gotten 5-star reviews - no one who has stayed here would be able to justify anything less. Steve, the owner, is an absolute sweetheart from the time you make your booking to the time you walk out the door - he even gave us a lift down to Sand Safaris for our quad-biking tour on the dunes (try it - amazing!). The hostel itself is perfect - super-clean, great facilities, really comfortable...I felt completely at home. I was sorry we couldn't have stayed longer than one night, as we had a blast. If you're travelling to Newcastle, skip accommodations in the city, take the quick ferry ride over to Stockton Beach and experience a fair dinkum Aussie town in all its glory. You won't regret it!

After arriving in Newcastle 2 days ago we came over to Stockton by ferry which only took a few minutes. My friends and I were debating whether to come to Stockton and I am so pleased that we did. We came accross the Beach Backpackers a recently refurbished cinema which is just so funky and fantastic...have you ever stayed in a hostel with a sauna and spa? This place really is the best...it would be a waste to travel the coast and not spend a few days here. Fun and friendly enivronment will make you not want to leave! x x

We arrived in Newcastle late in the evening and was really happy that the owner of the hostel arrived to pick us up from the ferry wharf, of which is incidentally a small walk from the wharf itself. Once we had checked in and shown to our rooms we realised that we had stumbled on a really fantastic hostel as it is immaculately clean, super-friendly, incredibly spacious and above all seems more like a hotel than a hostel..This hostel really deserves a mention and 5 stars as some of the other hostels we've stayed have been very poor, dirty and the staff really unhappy and disinterested, so in a nutshell, guys if you're passing through Newcastle drop in and enjoy a luxury stay at very affordable prices!!!

The managemant were absolutley brilliant&always helped in anyway they could! Having travelled themselves they passed on great advice&knew exactly what to do to make our stay even better! With spacious rooms, clean showers,a large kitchen,bbq&spa/sauna its definately worth the extra few dollars. We would highly recommend this hostel to anyone!

I am now sitting on the free internet within the facility. It is great here. We were admazed at how great the whole place is. The kitchen is huge with everything you need to cook the food you bring in or there is places to eat all near by. The rooms are huge as well and really cool colours. With a shared sitting and reading rooms through out makes the place feel like a second home. The only problem we have had is it is full of stairs so be ready for it but well worth that for everything else that is here.

The Staff are just great, everything we have needed has been done, nothing like what we had expected. Well done guys and thanks.

Mix everything together. Price is good, accommodations are unbelievably spacious, Steve who owns the hostel is one hell of a nice guy and will help you much much much beyond what is required, locals are great and very friendly (you have to eat at the Asian Affair! awesome!), small great great staff who actually know what they are doing and care about you. You will never get any mechanical ...here's your towel and checkout is at 10:00 here. Check it out. It's worth it.

Stockton, a quaint little town just across the harbor from Newcastle where the best backpackers in all of Oz is located. The accomodations are fantastic with spacious rooms, comfy beds, spa, sauna and not to mention its roof-top view of the entire city. Linen and towels are all provided and the bathrooms are many and spotlessly clean. Although the accomodations were wonderful it was the staff that really made our stay such a pleasure. They were the most pleasant and helpful staff that we have experienced on our travels. We would recommend this hostel to anyone. Thank you to the staff at Stockton Beach Backpackers for everything!

Stockton Beach Backpackers was a fantastic place for a 2 week stop over. The place is awesome, it was formerly a picture theatre and it has been renovated really well. The rooms are huge, the beds comfortable, all linen is provided including white fluffy towels. Because of the size of the place, you can hang out with the other guests or chill out on your own, there is a great feeling to this place. They have spa and sauna, massive reading and common area with recliners. A roof top deck , great for a drink or a sunbake, with fantastic views of Stockton Beach (32klms unbroken beach). It is a family run buisness and the staff are exceptional, very knowledgeable and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure all the guests had a great time. Stockton is a seaside village in which to relax and visit the sand dunes, vineyards, go sailing with the locals, surfing, diving and snorkelling. And for those who want to party you are only a 2 minute ferry ride to Newcastle CBD which has the heaps of pubs, nightclubs and restaurants. Highly recommended.
