BUG Review
Just off the main highway leading to town, Lindel is in a big house and has a family atmosphere. The kitchen is spacious, and the dorms are clean and have good beds. Common areas, including a veranda, fill up with cheerful travellers. Bathrooms are modern and well maintained. They offer free breakfast, a swimming pool, and free use of body boards. Security could be better, but for the price, it is a good bet.
Price Dorm bed $24-27 ($23-26 VIP) Double/twin room $65-75
Prices include breakfast Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

i must say that it was the best hostel i stayed in along the east coast, it had a real nice feel about the place think that had some thing to do with it being an old house, not one of these big high rise buildings with loads of rooms! because it was small in size was better everyone got to no each other and good friendships were formed,on a chilled night on the veranda or a quite boozy one your choice, everyone was made welcome the staff were friendly and helpful also they new everyones name which makes a change to walk past the office and a voice come out and say morning.nathan..........! it was like home from home, i booked to stay 2 nights ended up staying 3 months and could have stayed there longer! i would recomend this hostel to anyone and if you go there see tony and get on the trip they do from there "kangeroo camping" you wont ever see anything like this in a national park, nature walks, kayaking or just lazing on the 11km beach with beautiful sights! then later wonder up to your luxuary tent and relax with a beer, bbq, and sit in amazement at the kangeroos around you while you eat! all in there natural surroundings! i could not get over it think it should be in the lonely planet as some thing you should do up the east coast! people you are missing out!

We arrived and tony the owner was waiting for us, which was really good after a 5 hr coach trip! He showed us round and let us settle in. The hostel is perfect, by far the best one we have stayed in, clean, tidy etc. We stayed in a 6 bed dorm, was overall a friendly and modern place. All 3 of us have thouroughly enjoyed our time here. The town is within easy stroling distance, and has everything you would need. The coast walking is brilliant, and we really enjoyed the koala hospital. Would def stay here again.

We called Tony (the hostel owner) from our coach, he kindly picked us up and showed us around the hostel. Our plan was to stay just two nights but we have ended up staying four. We had a great time, went for a long walk along the beaches met some locals down flynns beach and they took us out to see some of port macquarie beautiful views, went whales watching and had a few drinks on saturday night down the irish tavern. Met some more locals that took us out on their helicopter. Maybe we are extremly lucky but we've had the best time. The hostel is in a great location and has a good vibe. The balcony is great for chilling and the kitchen and bathrooms are clean and spacious. The shower is amazing!!! Tony is very approachable and helpful and provides free breakfast and internet as well as free usage of the bikes (depending on lenght of stay). I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling in the area, as hastings river is beautiful for walks and can't wait to see the koala's feed this afternoon.
Pros:
Good location, friendly atmosphere, free internet, manager is very helpful
Cons:
Nothing that springs to mind

If you are looking for a good hostel that is reasonably priced and within good reach of all the things to see and do in Port Macqaurie then this is the hostel for you. You are collected from the coach stop by the owner himself, which gives you a very friendly and personal feeling on your arrival. He will be honest with you and tell you all you need to know about the area etc. The facilities are clean and tidy and set in an older style building. There is free breakfast, tea & coffee and internet which all helps when your backpacking. So if you are looking for a fun, small & personal hostel then go to Port Macqaurie Backpackers.

A really excellent hostel, highly reccommended, June 5, 2008
I stayed here with my boyfriend for 2 nights in June 2008 and we had an excellent time here. The hostel is a great size, not crowded at all. We stayed in a double room which was very clean. I am surprised at people who have said the place was dirty because that was not true for us at all, the place is spotless, cleaned daily and the bedlinen changed every time someone moves out. There is free breakfast, free internet and a 'Name that tune' contest every day where you can win money. The owner/manager, Tony couldn't have been more helpful, telling you absolutely everything you need to know and gives lifts whenever needed. I would reccommend anyone to stay here, the atmosphere is superb.

I stayed at this hostel once before and those owners were very nice. The current owner is very manipulative, rude and aggressive toward anyone he doesn't like. He hits on the women and is hostile towards guys unless they suck up to him! He was rude and dismissive toward me and attemped to humiliate me, which I wouldn't tolerate!
I caution anyone against staying at this hostel unless you enjoy bieng abused and pushed around.

Hostel Manager's Right of Reply
When a late 50s man asks for a mixed dorm it sets off alarm bells for an owner. After showing him around the hostel I found him standing outside the girls toilets peering in. I told him where the mens was, and got no response, after the third time peering in I told him where the mens toilets was once more and he started telling me that he was "orienteering". I told him there was no need to be "orienteering" around the girls toilets. He then started abusing me so he was asked to leave the hostel.

The hostel despite being in need of some work is a really relaxed place to stay and although there is very little security i wasn't concerned about this. Tony the manager can seem abit unapproachable and definately seems to favour the female clientel but he is a character. I really enjoyed how you got to know everyone and the balcony at the front is a great place to hang out. The pool and free internet are also great selling points. If you choose to go here then as long as you know what to expect and take tony with a pinch of salt you'll enjoy your stay. I would definately go back if I was to stay in Port MacQuarie
