BUG Review
Tokyo Village is a sprawling house south of the city centre that is popular with Asian travellers. It has a TV room with table football; two small, but fully-equipped, kitchens; internet access; a laundry and an outdoor barbecue area. It is a bit cluttered but some travellers like the atmosphere.

This was a good hostel for the price. The beds were clean and comfortable. The other occupants of the hostel were quiet and seemed to be mostly Asian students renting on a weekly basis. The only downside is that all the dorm rooms face the rather busy Cleveland or Chalmers Streets which makes sleeping difficult.

Two kitchens which is great. Lots of bathrooms although the one I used had very poor ventilation which caused lots of condensation. It has a good common area with a TV and an extensive book exchange.

Within easy walking distance to Central station, but don't go much farther south or you'll end up in Redfern which can be dangerous. Just down the street from a Coles and lots of Middle Eastern restaurants.

Tokyo Village was very nice, all the residents there were always ready with a smile and 'Hello'. However during the Rain the outdoor courtyard wasn't quite useful. The owners took effort to get to know your name (even though I only stayed there a couple of days). Some of the facilites were a little old, but clean (and some cigarette ash on the dining table one evening), but it was very cheep for the city, and the personality more than made up for it. Certainly one of the places to go to if you are tired of the large impersonal YHA's or BASE.

Three "terrace houses" a short walk from the city. It has a very personal feeling, the owner seems to know most guests by name and everyone is very friendly and relaxed. A nice change from the large hostels nearer to the city. It is a bit old but relatively clean. Mostly frequented by Japanese and German travellers who end up staying for a few weeks. Has cheap weekly and rates.
