BUG Review
This hostel is literally next to Central Station, with some reconstructed rail carriages turned into dorm rooms right next to the railway platform. They are small, but impeccably clean and well insulated to keep the train noise out. The hostel has a large kitchen and dining area, and a café with snacks. It is large and open inside, and while the rooms are quite spartan, it still maintains an intimate feel and a laid-back atmosphere. Staff are pleasant and organise tours daily. Internet kiosks cost $3 per hour. Outside there is a huge spa pool and lounge area which is fun at night.

Price
Dorm bed $33-40.50 ($29.50-36 HI/YHA)

Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

Stayed here in April 2008 in one of the carriage rooms - these were great. Big lockers, new and clean. You do get woken up by the first train in the morning, but this isn't such a problem as its not too early. Great kitchen and fridge facilities, 24h reception. Clean and powerful showers. Only downside is there wasn't much going on here.

A good new hostle right on the train station (platform 0). Small pool not worth bothering with unless you want a shower straght away! Train Carraiges as dorms was a nice touch if you don't mind been up early request one of these. Facilities were well maintained and staff were helpful and available 24hrs.

Excellent hostel in a great location but rather dull, December 29, 2006

Cons: Little atmosphere

Though this hostel is a 15-20 minute walk from the city centre, it's right next to the main railway station (in fact the railway carriage dorms are next to Platform 1). I stayed in a railway carriage dorm for the novelty factor, as well as in a 4-bed. Both were fine, being spacious and with lockers, and the shared facilities were also good. As with a lot of YHAs, the main problem was a lack of atmosphere. I'd stay here again.

An alright hostel, there was nothing exceptionally wonderful about the hostel, but then again there wasn't anything too bad about the hostel... Your typical YHA, clean, but a little bit boring!

i stayed at the railway square over new year 2005 and thought what a brilliant and clean haven!!!! the only thing i would mention is the lack of a washing line, and the general atmosphere was a bit depressing... but for everything you need in a hostel this place was wicked!!! if thats all you have to grumble about then life is far 2 short!!!

Great hostel in a former parcel shed, sleeping in a railway carriage seems to be lots of fun.

hostel is compared to the bigger neighbours (wake up and central yha) much safer. facilities are excellent, internet and even a cd-burner on the premises.

public transport on walking distance.
