BUG Review
Just across the street from Central Station, Wake Up! hostel is in a nice nine-story building packed with amenities. Besides kitchen, laundry, and an atmospheric TV lounge, they have a travel desk, a street side café, and a lively downstairs bar. Every weekday they offer free walking tours and excursions, which draw good crowds and could be a great way to sightsee while meeting some of the international travellers staying here (if you didn't do so last night in the SideBar). The funky interior is clean, air-conditioned and spacious, each floor themed for a different region of the world. Internet runs $2.50 per hour and Wi-Fi access is $3 per hour. Security is air-tight and reception staff are very helpful. It's a bit pricey, but for the location and facilities it just might be worth it.

I loved this hostel. It is right at the top of George street, and you can get the bus to all the main things for a couple of dollars. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk to all the shops. Bit more to get to the harbour.

Everything is very clean, and the staff are very friendly. The deco is funky, and each floor is a different country with things from that country painted on it. The TV room is bright and there are always lots of people there. It could just do with being a bit bigger. The same with the kitchen. Everything is clean, but it's always quite busy, so it's best to either eat earlier or later than you usually would.

The bathrooms and dorms are clean and there is nothing to complain about. Comfy beds and your own locker to keep your valuables in.

Underneath the hostel is a bar called Sidebar. On weekends it's really busy and the drinks are quite cheap.

The only complaints about this hostel is the price. It's quite expensive, and also your key is a pain. You need it to use the lift, to get into your room and to get into the bathrooms. Not good if you get up in the middle of the night and forget it, as you can't get into the bathroom or back into your room.

Other than that, it's a great hostel.

Wake up is definatly worth looking into. We stayed in a private room, wit a bathroom. Room and bathroom were cleaned perfectly. The room was big enough and had a nice view out over sydney. Wake up is very close to China town and central station, so if youre staying short term definatly invest in a travel pass.

The kitchen (the one time i used it) was very clean and well equip. Staff were very helpful.

Would recommend if you wanted a private room, or if you didnt mind being a tiny bit out of the very centre of town.

The ultimate part hostel!

Side bar downstars is usually jammed every night and they have a different theme night every weekend.

Drinks and food tokens are always given when you pay your rent.

There is always something on in the bar, whether is acoustic Dan singing his heart out, Karaoke, bingo or whatever there is always something to keep you entertained.

Its a great place for meeting people and as I found a great place to start off your travels.

Start off here and enjoy it and you'll never look back!

Could have been a good stay if I'd been able to sleep at some point. I stayed in a 10-bed dorm (the others were too expensive) and that was a mistake: - they're on the first floor, next to the communal area (TV on 22 h/day, people playing football at 1am) - just above the bar, with music going on til 2 am. - the backpackers there are usually young, immature and very noisy: they come back at 3am, turn the lights on and talk as if it was day. It is also quite common to wake up and find a backpacker or 2 lying on the floor because they were too pissed to reach their bed!

If you're looking for a quiet place, do not stay here or save money to stay in a smaller dorm.

A group of us stayed here our very first night in Australia. It was really nice, more like a hotel than a hostel really. There were a ton of floors that had different themes. But you had a keycard that you had to use to access everything--door, elevator, room, bathroom--that got pretty annoying. The room was VERY cramped. 8 bunk beds and thats about it. Nice internet area downstairs but kind of expensive. There is a cafe and bar attached, but I heard the bar was usually pretty dead. It's a great location, right across from the train station. Plus they've got a shuttle to the airport. So it's great if you're just getting here or leaving. But it's not very conductive to meeting people as it's more like a hotel and there's really no big social area. It's close to the market, chinatown, and not too far to the harbor. Not too many bars around though so if you go out you'll definitely need a cab back. All in all, it is SUPER SUPER nice, but more like a hotel and makes it hard to meet people.

This place is legendary! Great place if you want to shag! Clean, and has the best location. The trouble you will encounter is actually leaving the building. Friendships are easily made here. The staff is amazing! Despite its size, it has a home feel to it. The space screams sydney! Ask for room 703- the biggest room, with the most personal space. Wicked sunset views from this top floor. You can see the blue mountains!

Stayed at the Wake Up for a total of 5 nights and I would recommend it. We booked a twin room, and ended up with a double bed and single bed above in traditional bunk bed set up. It was 88 usd per night, and the only downside was the en-suites being booked - it was slightly expensive, but worth it. The walls are thin and you will hear people if they decide to be noisy, but this is generally not a problem as it quietens down after 12pm. The staff are all extremely helpful and as it is so large, there are all types of travellers here from the more mature (me) to the younger babes! There is a bar downstairs that provides entertainment and it is an excellent location for getting around Sydney.

I stayed in Wakeup over Xmas 2004 and into 2005 and had easily the time of my life here!! When i first went to OZ i was travelling alone and was a little worried about making friends but had no problem here as it was so easy to meet people and many of the people I met here i 've kept as friends even though I finished my travels about 6 months ago!! The Sidebar below is a great night out and convenienlty placed just below the hostel and speaking of being well placed, the hostel is right in the centre of Sydney next to the train and bus station so it's not a problem getting out and about. The internet is pretty expensive but just round the corner at Peterpans on George street it's only $1 so that's not really a problem!! On the whole i would defo recommend Wakeup to anyone visiting Sydney..... LOVIN THE PARTY!!!!

The location of this hostel is good-no pick up but it's only a couple of minutes walk from central station. We stayed in a double which was really clean, the kitchen facilities were a tad small for the size of the hostel but we didn't use it as there are so many places to eat in Sydney, the bathrooms were nice and big and cleaned daily and the common areas were ok too. I would definately stay here again.
