BUG Review
This hostel is located in a beautiful building that has been tastefully decorated. There is a very nice common room with Internet access and a clean kitchen. The bathrooms are spotless. There is also a backyard with a barbecue and picnic tables and a balcony overlooking the street. It is a quiet hostel with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. It has the best location of Glebe’s hostels right in Glebe's main shopping area and close to shops, restaurants and cafés.
Price Dorm bed $25 Single room $60-88 Double room $80-105 Family room $154 Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
I would definitely not recommend Alishan international guesthouse. The
bedroom and bathroom were mouldy and extremely overpriced for what it
was, the service was terrible, the room was serviced once a week and
only after we had asked several times. The guy at reception
would always ask "is there anything valuable in your room?" on the
days that the room was cleaned, not a nice atmosphere! Accommodation
is hard to find in Sydney but you shouldn't put up with the service or
price of the Alishan guesthouse.

This guesthouse is nothing compared to Wattle House (also in Glebe). My boyfriend and I stayed in both, and much preferred Wattle House. Alishan is okay in the sense that it has a kitchen, lounge, and laundry facilities, but I did not think it was particularly clean at all in the kitchen. All the equipment was quite old and worn. The room was tiny and the window looked out on a wall one meter away (so no light). It was hard to open the door to the ensuite 'bathroom' which was more the size of a tiny cupboard. For 99 dollars per night for an ensuite double room, I think this guesthouse was not particularly good value. And one more thing, there were no duvets but blankets on the bed, old fashioned and not as comfortable. The dorms might be different, but I certainly would not really recommend it to anyone as you can get better value in other places. The atmosphere was a bit impersonal too.

Not too far down Glebe Point Road from Broadway, it is next to everything. There's an ATM right across the street from it and lots of places to shop and eat. This is one of Glebe's most charming areas. Broadway Mall is just down the road as is the University of Sydney. You can catch any number of buses from here to Circular Quay, The Rocks, Chinatown, etc. The dorm rooms are spacious and well-maintained. The single bathrooms are nice and clean. It has loads of atmosphere, and it was interesting to wander around some of the strange hallways and additions. The dining room and den are equally well-done and comfortable. The patio area out back is large and charming, though we didn't use it.There's a small library to choose from, internet access, pay phones, etc. Of course, there are no elevators, so be prepared to haul any luggage up them to the 2nd floor check-in office. The front door automatically locks, so you need to ring the bell so that the manager can let you in if you don't have a key. All in all, it was a highlight of my stay in Sydney.
