BUG Review
Ambassador Backpackers is a dull hostel in a charmless building in a back alley in the centre of Kings Cross. The hostel doesn't have many common areas - just a kitchen and a rooftop deck with nice views. There's no TV lounge but all the rooms have TVs, which keep travellers in their room and kills any chance of a social atmosphere. Apart from that there are en suite bathrooms in most rooms.

I have just spent a night at the AAA Ambassador Budget Hotel in Darlinghurst Rd, and would advise anyone thinking of staying there to steer clear of it. I booked our room through a website, which said it was clean and luxurious. I was not too impressed with the cleanliness when we arrived, but thought we would just have to put up with it. My husband and I woke up this morning with over one hundred bites each. When we looked under the bed there were bed bugs crawling on the floor, in addition to a lot of dirt! I reported the problem to the manager, who was completely unconcerned, even saying that there couldn't be bed bugs in our room because no one else had complained. However as we had this conversation another guest interrupted to say that she had bites on her face, and had been wondering what they were! I was not convinced that the manager was planning to organise fumigation, although he did mutter something about steam cleaning, which is totally useless against bed bugs.

So, altogether a very unpleasant experience. I understand that bed bugs are a common problem, but I was thoroughly disgusted by the manager's rude and uninterested attitude. Not only this, but the cleanliness of the hostel left a lot to be desired. I see that this hostel was reviewed previously as being clean, but I think standards must have really slipped since that review was posted
