BUG Review
Backpackers Headquarters is quite a good hostel when compared to others in Kings Cross. It is clean although it is starting to show its age. There is a small kitchen and a lounge with a big TV on the ground floor near the reception plus a laundry and rooftop sundeck. This hostel also offers a free pick up service from the airport. It is at the quiet Rushcutters Bay end of Kings Cross.

If staying in clean, orderly environments with no prospect of any fun appeals to you (ie: prison) then I would recommend to you without question Backpackers Headquarters. It has, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the worst atmospheres of anywhere I have ever stayed before (the saying cut atmostphere with a knife would apply at his point). You want completely unreasonable staff who run the hostel like an empire with no regard for the safety of female guests? Check - you got it. You want arguments with people everyday? Check, you got that too. You want to be threatened with being evicted for making too much noise at 9.30pm on a friday night and waking up other 'guests' (ie: hostel staff that want to sleep and treat the hostel as their personal house and not a hostel - shared accomadation for everyone that has paid for it).

On the plus side - it is clean, the beds are comfy and there is a good roof terrace (although people are probably banned from going up there now anyway) but no amount of pros could persuade me to ever stay here again, or recommend this place to any of my friends. Singlehandedly the worst hostel I have stayed in (and I have stayed in many).
