BUG Review
This family-run hostel is clean and charming. It has a comfy TV room and a brand new clean kitchen. The open courtyard in the back is great for BBQs and meeting fellow backpackers. The large dorms are spotless and breezy, with skylights and fans and some with nice views. Dorm rooms are spotless and freshly painted in muted colours with comfortable beds. Toilets are not quite as new but well maintained. Lots of travellers relax and watch movies in the common room. It is not a party hostel, but it can still be fun. Staff are extremely friendly and warm. Although it is pricey, it is central and safe - perfect for women travelling alone, since technically it is located in Potts Point, but just a few steps from the dodgier area of Kings Cross. Internet with Wi-Fi is free.

Give this place a miss, December 28, 2006

Pros: Friendly reception staff
Cons: Lots of long-term residents, cramped bathrooms

Though the staff were friendly enough, I found the hostel to be a disappointment. There were lots of workers in residence, meaning the dorm was a complete mess and there was always someone asleep in it at whatever time of the day. The bathrooms were cramped (minuscule sinks) and there seemed to some problem with the (low) water pressure in 2 of the 3 shower cubicles. I would not stay here again.

Have been travelling round Oz for 3 months now, and this place is the best hostel i've stayed at. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the whole place has a really homely feel, even down to a fire in the living room! Would definately recommend the Blue Parrot to anyone coming to Sydney.

Was only in Sydney for 2 days, so picked the Blue Parrot for it's fairly high ratings - I wasn't disappointed.

Pros: Fairly clean, good security, adequite lockers, friendly people, good location.

Cons: Small pillows :-), no organized outings with guests.

The staff and other guests were very friendly. Received keys for my room and the security door outside. Decent sized lockers for my valuables. The rooms were avg. sized and clean. The bathrooms were clean enough. Found no bugs (not even in the kitchen). The beds were pretty comfortable for a bunk. Spring mattresses with clean linens. Was happy with the location in Kings Cross. It's located farther away from the strip joints compaired to other hostels. Some hostels are right in the middle of the red light area. I like the fact that the BP was farther away from that, closer to more modest shops. I also, wished they had an organized outing while I was there. Apparently I just missed a big night out and everyone was still recovering. Overall a great experience. The next time I'm in Sydney, I'd stay at the Parrot again.

This hostel is the bomb if you want somewhere long term and feel like you are one of the family. Christina and Andrew the owners are incredibly friendly and make sure that all their guests are looked after. If you need work Andrew will always be willing to help out. The nightshift crew Chris and Dave (silvertongue) you 2 are the best fella's. Cheers. Not forgetting all the regulars- Jazz, Martin, Kirsty, Big Dave, Irish etc. You made me feel welcome and helped me have the best time whilst I was there.(I still am and dont want to leave in October!) It's clean and the beds are comfy and thats ALL you need. Ive noticed that many backpackers are so picky about where they stay. And if there is a stain on the carpet in their room or something they go ape! If you want luxury then go to the Hilton! They have Foxtel for those rainy nites in but if you like the odd tipple then there are so many great bars in the surrounding area. Big hostels such as wakeup! are great for facilities BUT they are just like budget hotels. (impersonal) all the money in the world can't buy the comfort of friends like these and people (who work and reside here) are the salt of the earth. Living in a smaller hostel is the best way to make friends. I recommend this to anyone who is travelling alone (like I am).

When im back around xmas I shall be checking in again for sure!

Very friendly and welcoming hostel. The staff are extremely helpful, and all the other guests were very friendly. In a great location, just a short walk over to the harbour or down to Kings Cross. Rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. Highly recommended!

See for yourself which hostel got the most good reviews. That's because it was brilliant! Entertaining, helpful and efficient staff (such as myself). Check out our pics out front. Clean, comfy; perfect location - central yet quiet. The owners are like your favourite rellies: mad, fun, yet look after you. Layout conducive to making friends and travel partners easily. Always someone go out with and organise bbq, beach, shopping, movies, culture, exploring, trips, clubbing, drinking, drinking, drinking... the lot. The odd fling wasn't unknown either... My planned week here in Jan 03 ended up being 7 months, and I made wonderful friends I'll always keep in touch with. Big up the Blue Parrot posse! The sweaties Lisa and Gillian, Gooee, Nick, Aileen, Joss, Kieran, Alex, Martin, Mike, Hannah, Ann, Joel, too many to count! Guys, thanks for the time of my life. And thanks to the owners: my mate Christina, Andrew, E & S, and of course Lillllllllllyyyyyyy!!!! Love you and miss you loads.

Only stayed one night (was by myself) but 2 of us in the same room got tons of bug bites that for me caused great itching pain for over a week. Can't explain the pain. Sorry, place seemed very quite and ok and owners seemed nice and helpfull. but would not wish this to happen to anyone else
