BUG Review
The Avalon Beach Hostel is a good accommodation choice for travellers wanting a fun place to stay in Sydney's Northern Beaches. It has a kitchen and a big common area with a fireplace and a balcony where rainbow lorikeets often come to perch. Downstairs there is a laundry and a TV lounge with table tennis. It has a really great atmosphere, making it one of the most fun places to stay in the Sydney area.

Dorm bed $25

dilapedated dump run by greedy control freak, February 3, 2006

lets face it, the place is a dump. overpriced for what it is. 3 toilets serve about 80 people and are not kept very clean. there are no fire stairs in the event of a fire. there are no facilities for people with disabilities. management refer travellers to locals for menial jobs which generally pay peanuts contributing to this country's unemployment problems. not even bedbugs reside on the shitty mattresses on offer. linen costs $5 extra, and the $30 key deposit may not be returned to you at the managers discretion. do not pay rent too far in advance because if you upset the dude he will throw you out without refund and may threaten to call the police if you object to his rude manner. he also lets himself into your room in the middle of the night without your consent if he so chooses. on a positive note: the travellers staying there are genuine, friendly people forming an open, happy, caring community. my advice: don't go there unless you have no other choice.

Bloody Awful! Walked in and walked out. Got in our double room which was covered in graffiti, grime and something smelly. Peered in the manky bathroom which had broken doors and was also smelly. We picked up our bags, got our money back and checked into the nicest hotel we could afford! - PS Also found out from a local in the town that before xmas (2004) there was a murder. A man had his throat slit by a drugged up tourist on the lounge floor!

This is the worst experience I have ever had. With mould all over the walls and only 3 bathrooms in operation for over 80 guests, this has got to be the worst form of accomodation I have ever seen. With a 5 star backpackers hostel a few minutes down the road for only a few dollars more per night, it is unbelievable that anyone stays for more than a night. KEEP AWAY!!!

Apparently ten years ago this was one of the greatest hostels around. Today it is not. It is mostly used by working travellers and is in disrepair. The men's washrooms were closed three years ago and have not been opened since - everyone uses the womens. The people were friendly and there were bikes for hire but there were no tours or activities. The town of Avalon is quaint but it is a community with a lot of elderly people. I made the trip here because of the reputation but wish that I hadn't.

The place is packed with sweet surfie boyz and galz. Very cruisy. Great friendly atmosphere. It wasn't the first time there for most people, so that's always a bonus- so good you keep coming back! And the gorgeous ladies at reception even go out and party with you... SOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT!
