What a place.. Even though Ive stayed at some nice places, Ive always felt as if Ive been travelling still. Not here, dunno if its the surf themed decor, the music pumped into the showers, or the friendly atmosphere about the place, but this hostel truly has something magic about it, since my arrival 4 days ago, i just seemed to melt into the cruisee lifestyle of surf, sun and spunkee women, my closest form of living the famous aussie lifestyle yet.

come grab a piece.. its WICKED !

I've read over some of the reviws that have been written and I would have to disagree. I've been here for a couple months and I have never felt this place to be anything but my home. I've met so many great people here, the management is awesome, it's in a great location and I can't stop telling everyone I met to come check out and see what a great time you can have in Cronulla. This doesn't even feel like Sydney but yet theres easy access to get into the city. Theres plenty to do, and not only staff but all the people who stay here both short and long term are helpful to suggest placesto go, where to get a job, and always up for playing a game of pool, going to the beach or just hanging out and having a good chat. I would have say that anyone to come here would be greeted by friendly folks and it's so easy to make life longs friends where as other hostels people are coming and going all the time. This is a place with a definete family feel and comfortable atmosphere. No matter where I end up going I would come back to this place, no questions asked. This has been the best place I've been to yet. Cheers to all the staff for making this place, not only an enjoyable experience for me but for plenty of other that I know feel the same way.

I have stayed at cronulla beach YHA for a while. It is perfect location, 2 mins from the beach only a train ride to the city and you are right next to the train station. It also has a lot of work in the area. Cronulla Beach YHA is a very friendly hostel that has a real family feel. The owner Mike is very helpful and makes you feel very welcome. It has almost come to feel like a second home. I have stayed in a lot of hostels around Oz and this is by far the best! I will definatly be back!

Great location but stinks of sweat and stale beer. Too many long-termers with stuff spread out over whole room. Also I had quite a lot of stuff pinched.

Got to agree with previous poster regarding overcrowding as whislt I was there over a weekend there was at least 2 people sleeping in the lounge on Friday and Saturday night.

Also I prefer the small 4 bed dorms and I was put in one on the first night, but this 4 bed dorm had 2 couples sleeping in the lower single bunks (making 6 in the room) with the full knowledge of the manager as he advised me that they only had one bed available (I'd booked a week in advance) in a 4 bed dorm but he had 2 long term couples staying in the bottom bunks, as I'd payed by this time I didn't have much choice.

Also their were notices saying No Smokeing in the kitchen but the number of fag ends on the floor on Sunday morning proved that this rule is totally ignored.

Kitchen, bathroom and lounge were treated by some of the residents as though at home and they expected someone else to clean up after them.

Only reason it gets 2* is it's a great location. I'd have been better off staying in Sydney and using the train to visit. I won't be returning.

this was the worst YHA hostel i ever stayed. The management allows guests to SHARE A BED so they pay for one bed and also some guests LIVE there for half a year with all the household items spread all over the room.the manager also organise a punch party which resulted in the entire hostel covered in vomit and cigarettes and one guest almost died from panic attack but no ambulance was called in. The cleaning was not done and i was to stay at the stinkiest place i could imagine that cost me 25 bucks. sleeping at a public toilet would have been a better experience, really. the rooms were poorly ventilated if there was any provision. i regret that i bothered coming to stay here. i could have remained at one of the sydney hostels and visit the town as a day trip by train.

What a great place and because of the size it is very easy to make some really great friends which is one of the reasons many people have more than one visit here. There is also so much to do in the local area whilst not being out of touch from Sydney.

this could be a perfect surf and dive hostel, 400m to surf beaches and right above a very good dive shop.it is let down thougth by the kitchen which is worse than a pig pen and stinks of cigarette smoke, with ash everywhere, and overcrowding. it is not uncommon to see people camping in the t.v room because the owner is trying to cram so many people in.minor problems which could easily be sorted, and let down what could be a brillent hostel.

Where to chill anytime of the year, March 6, 2003

I have been in OZ now for close to a year and have been everywhere and it has been one of the best experiences in my life. The people, places and crazy situations I have encountered I will remember forever.

During my journey I have used Cronulla Beach YHA as a base. It is the best place to chill out anytime of the year. I first hit Cronulla in late Summer of 2002 and the place was jumping. The whole area is alive with the Austrailan surf scene. I then came back during winter and picked up a job in one of the cafes for a couple of months. Winter is a little more subdued than summer but there are still alot of things to do including bushwalking, horseriding, surfing, drinking and going to the rugby league. The best of all I saved lots of money.

I have just left Cronulla after the Summer of 2003 and so had much fun. Since it is such a small hostel everyone gets to know each other and the friendships gained are very special.

I hope one day to go again

A stay at the Cronulla YHA is a must! It's a small hostel with a family feel right down the street from shops, pubs, clubs and a gorgeous beach! Only a three dollar (outside of "rush hour") train ride to central Sydney and the famous Harbour. Honestly the best hostel we found in our 6 month sojourn to Australia. It is clean, in a good area, and the manager Michael will make you feel right at home. There is a good number of travellers who make Cronulla YHA their home for much longer than the usual hostel stay of a few days to a week, because of everything the hostel is.

When we arrived in Oz, we were lucky enough to find this gem in Sydney's southern suburbs. Our plans were to stay two nights in Sydney and then head up the coast. A month later we finally managed to tear ourselves away from our "home" and new "family". And needless to say, we returned for another week before we HAD to leave, or we'd miss our flight home!

Really, you will be very impressed with the Cronulla Hostel, and everything it has to offer. Without trying to sound (even more!) cheezy, if you can only stay at one hostel while you're in Sydney, make sure its the Crounlla YHA. I recommend it to everyone I meet who is planning on visiting Sydney.

Oh, and Peter Michaels fish and chips, right across the street... to DIE for!!! :)
