BUG Review
Toddy’s is a large hostel complex at the southern end of Alice Springs that is comprised of a couple of former motels. It offers poor quality accommodation with a barren and decrepit kitchen, neglected bathrooms and old and worn furnishings in the common areas. However it has a relatively good bar and two swimming pools.

Great place to stay if you don't mind walking, November 5, 2006
Reviewer: seaturtle4312 from Cairns, Australia

Pros: Clean, with friendly staff
Cons: Quite a walk from the city

The rooms were well maintained and clean, and the staff was very friendly. They had a cook who would prepare a buffet dinner and it was pretty cheap. But for their complimentary breakfast, you receive 2 pieces of bread and tea/coffee - not quite what I was expecting. The free airport transfer is only one way, which I was not told. If you don't mind walking 20 minutes into town, this was a good place to stay.

Having arrived in town very late most hostels' receptions were closed. Myself and a friend chanced upon the owner of Elkes, he let us in and trusted us to sort out payment the following day. I only stayed in Alice a few days but felt comfortable and well looked after here. A good place to stop while passing through, trips to Uluru can be booked at short notice and at a good price. The common area usually closes quite early but the security made exception for me to be able to watch the cricket

The good:

1. Perfect hostel.

2. A bed is not creaky.

The bad:

1. The owner is unfriendly and unhelpful but his staff are nice.

2. No blanket available in winter. Please bring your own blanket or sleeping bag.

3. Far from town centre. I took 30 minute walk to get there.

Most hostels are located a bit outside town, so is Toddy's. I reckon it's a 15-20 minute walk to the town centre, not too bad.

I really enjoyed staying here. It might look a little run-down at first, but it's actually pretty comfortable. The staff were very helpful and facilities were good.

The showers were the best I could find in Australia, the kitchen was tidy & spacious and beds were very comfortable.

The bbq has already been mentioned a lot but yes: it's great!! I met a lot of cool ppl at Toddy's and would definately go back!

Toddy's is a bit far from town, but it's an easy walk, and being away from Alice may actually be a plus. There's free bus service as well, and regular airport pickup (though we missed ours due to a late plane.) Free breakfast, though nothing special. The real deal is the nightly BBQ, all you can eat for 7.50. The patio/bar area is a good place to meet and socialize. Our room was tiny, but functional, and even had a sink. And the showers are great!!! Large stalls and plenty of hot water. In all, a good place to relax after a trip to Uluru.

Scruffy but really nice, November 29, 2001

My first impression of Toddy's wasn't great. I had to leave Melanka's because there was no room when I returned from my Uluru trip.

Toddy's was a good 15-20mins walk from the town centre, and on first inspection seemed a littlerun-down and lacking in facilities.

However, I really enjoyed my stay there - the atmosphere was very laid-back, and the staff were lovely. Totally sound.

The rooms were quite big, if a bit scruffy. And mine had a reasonable-sized en-suite, which was handy.

The common-room was popular, but not very comfortable - it basically comprised of a shed with a tin roof that got a little deafening when it rained.

However, they did sell very cheap beer at the make-shift bar, which kind of made up for everything.

The only real downside is the distance from the town centre - a 20-min walk isn't exactly a trek, but when you're on your own, the dimly-lit and rather quiet road can seem a little daunting.
