BUG Review
This is a tiny hostel with lots of character. The dorms are a little cramped, but the bathrooms are great and have huge showers with great water pressure. The kitchen doesn't have a microwave or stove but is well stocked with everything else. The outside common area is a good place to meet other travellers. 1770 Backpackers is laid-back and has a great atmosphere at night, but sometimes it gets a bit too noisy. One of the best things about this place is the staff, who are outgoing and friendly and make you feel instantly at home.
Price Dorm bed $25 ($24 HI/ YHA, VIP) Double room $55 ($53 HI/ YHA, VIP) Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
Pros:
Hmmm... nothing really... Maybe the price!

If you like nocturnal animals, this is really the place to be! All you have to do is to wait until night-time. Then you can see little rodents running thru your stuff in your room – for free.
We got mice in our room in the middle of the night. Besides that the room was freezing cold in winter, because there are no real windows (basically just holes in the wall).
So, if you only like mice in the wild and not in your backpack and you don’t want to end up as an icicle, find yourself another hostel!

This was a great hostel to stay in. I planned on staying here 1 night but stayed 3. They have got all the simple things right that so many hostels fall down on. the only 1 thing they could possibly improve on is more plugs in the rooms.
In agnes water, this is the only hostel that will pick you up from the premier bus
we arrive around 2am, and the bus drops us in the middle of nowhere
so it is more than handy to have someone friendly to pick you up for only $15
when we arrive at the hostel, after a short explanation of the town, we are shown our rooms and a lovely note is left on our door.
everything's arranged for us so we don't disturb the others but we still have access to every facilities
the facilities are arranged for people to get together, talk, and get a rest if wanted (hammocks and sofas in a smoking area)
i love it here
i feel welcome,
Paul is really friendly and knows how to make you feel confortable really quicklythank you!!!

I came here for 2 days and have been here for 2 weeks. Backpackers1770 is really clean and has the best tours around. Surfing is only $16.50, fly over 1770 for half an hour for only $65 and you get to fly as well, scooter tour was amazing (we rode 50cc choppers for 3 hours seeing Kangaroos and Wallabies) and the surf race boat is mind blowing.
The staff are always friendly and helpful. They all have made everyone feel at home. Just read their wall in the kitchen with comments by the people who stayed here. The only suggestion I would make is to book early because they have been full since I have been here!

Travelling to Agnes Water from the Gold Coast I was dissapointed to be told by reception that I was unable to stay because I was not an international visitor and they require a passport and proof your a backpacker. Working in the tourism industry I have never seen or heard of such bad a business policy and recomend everyone give it a miss as how can visitors experience Australia if they are unable to interact with Australians.

I stayed here just before easter 2004. In echoing other reviews, don't expect 5 star amenities, but this hostel has a lot of charm in its own way. The dorms are based around an outdoor seating area, and are well-sized with good ensuite bathrooms. The kitchen is quite large for the size of the hostel, which is small - one of its virtues in my opinion. 1770 has some good stuff to see and do away from the mass tourist crowds that tend to gather in other areas along the Queensland coast, and the owner Richard has loads of info and will fix you up with something to do. The hostel is also close to local shops and facilities, so you can't go too wrong.
