BUG Review
This is a lovely small hostel in a tranquil bush setting five minutes' walk from the town centre. It has nicely decorated dorms of four beds each. There is a very nice saltwater swimming pool and a small outside bar with wooden tables, lounge chairs and a barbecue. Facilities include internet access, laundry and a pool table and the staff are easygoing and give good advice on Whitsunday tours. There is potential to have fun nights here, as they host events at the bar, but it is much more relaxed than the party hostels in the centre of town.

I only stayed in this hostel for 3 nights but that is only because I only had 5 days left in aus! After travelling for over 3 years now in hostels all over the world I would have to say BBB is 1 of the best. The staff are soooo helpful with everything we needed. The place is clean and has a great atmosphere at their little bar out the back. I would recommend this hostel to anyone going near Airlie Beach. I just wish I had more time there. Keep up the good work!!

Backpackers by the Bay is an amazing hostel. It overlooks the water, the rooms are new, airconditioned and the beds have real mattresses. The showers have excelent water pressure and the hostel is kept really clean. The staff are super friendly and the hostel atmosphere is awesome. Someone is always up for drinking and debauchery, but if your not feeling up to it, you can always watch one of the hostel's zillion movies.

Excellent hostel with large shower cubicles, December 28, 2006

Pros: Clean, away from the centre of Airlie, large showers
Cons: Limited laundry facilities

Airlie Beach itself is a pretty grim little town, so this hostel is mercifully just far enough away from the centre to feel separate. The dorms were clean with plenty of storage space, and the shower cubicles were probably the largest I've seen in Australia. Though the hostel was generally quiet, the other residents (seemingly 90% German) were friendly and there was a good atmosphere about the place. My one quibble was that the laundry facilities weren't very extensive, leading to interminable waits for the drier especially - probably half the residents were coming back from Whitsunday cruises hence all had lots of dirty laundry. I would definitely stay here again.

If you go to Airlie then this place is a must to unwind. About 5 minutes walk from the town (if that) but well well worth it. Lovely hostel with helpful staff. Probably the best hostel I stayed at, awesome views over the Bay as well. Toilet and Shower facilities were spotlessly clean. Great place to stay in airlie, would recommend for anyone going to Airlie.

I stayed at this place during August and was very impressed with how well run it was. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was very good. Because it wasn't a big place everyone mixed. The toilet, shower facilities were nice and clean and the double room I had was great,it had a great outlook - overlooking Boathaven Bay. The backpacker's is situated just out of town which makes for a peaceful sleep after a night out. There is a tour desk where Mark will arrange any trips you may want to go on. I had a terrific time aboard the :Ragamuffin" to Whitehaven Beach (a must see) and the following day to Hayman Island to snorkel.

In the evening they have a trivia quiz to help people mix and a little bar where you can get a drink at a reasonable price from Sean - cool one Sean!

Stayed at Beaches before my sailing trip and was unhappy I didn't pick this place first. Everyone is sooo friendly here because of the atmosphere. Not just the staff but even the guests are chilled out. Also because its only about a 4 min walk into town you can still party but sleep as well. The bar is open a couple of hours a night and they do quizes to meet other people. Thanks to all the guys for a great stay.

A nice small hostel, in walking distance of downtown Airlie Beach, but quiet. A garden and pool with a nice view. The double rooms are 55§ with YHA-card now, and the luggage store is quite expensive. A clean and well-maintained kitchen.

This place rocks. We have been travelling around Australia for 9 months and this has got to be the best place we have stayed at. Its clean and the staff were more than happy to help us with anything we needed. they booked us on a great boat trip and we saved money with their stand by rates. We would recommend this place to everyone. Upset we have to leave

We have been travelling for 9 months - 6 of them in Australia, and this hostel is the best one yet. The hostel staff seem to want to make this the friendliest place around. They know your name from the time you check in, they make sure you have lots of opportunities to meet other people and they were a huge help with everything from where to get a reasonably priced meal, what time shops and banks were open etc to which trips were the best value.

The hostel was super clean, and the views out over the pool are amazing. At night, they run trivia competitions where you can win a bottle of champagne and that creates a great atmosphere to meet the other people staying at the hostel.

Also (and importantly for us) it was quiet at night time so we were able to get a really good nights sleep. Overall, a brilliant effort!
