BUG Review
Consisting of 18 cabins set among lush gardens, this hostel has a quiet and peaceful ambience. The dorms are clean and well maintained and some have newly refurbished bathrooms. Each cabin is self contained with a kitchenette, en suite bathroom and a patio with hammocks. Other facilities include a swimming pool, spa pool, barbecue and internet access, as well as laundry. It is located just outside of the town centre, but shops and restaurants in Cannonvale are nearby. This hostel used to be known for the kangaroos they used to look after but unfortunately they had to be relocated to protect their health, but wallabies can still be spotted in the area if you are lucky.

A charming hostel/ b+b with helpful staff, March 18, 2007
Reviewer: sunnyday from Perth

Pros: clean, great breakfast, lovely room, helpful staff
Cons: it is a fair way from town but still walkable, staff overworked

This hostel didnt seem to be a hostel at all it was more like a b+b because the room were of much better quality than what we are used to. Breakfast consisted of fresh pineapple and melon, muffins, cereal, toast and tea and coffee. That was a nice surprise. The staff seem to be overworked but they were still very helpful. A movie is put on the big screen every night. The actual town is a fair old walk along the beach but the courtesy bus goes every hour. This is a downside but it is obvious from looking at the other hostels in town that it is a much better choice.

Excellent Hostel!!! I have stayed in Hostels all over Australia and this hostel is by far the best. In 2003 i stayed at bush village for 3 months, had the time of my life and never wanted to leave, recently when i returned to Oz for a months holiday i once again stayed at bushies, Since my last visit in 2003 all of the cabins have been updated (by far the best rooms in an Oz Hostel), there is now a new giant screen tv in the lounge showing movies by request and the staff are more friendly than ever. If you visit Airlie and would like to stay somewhere nice rather than wallowing in your own (and other peoples) puke at magnums then stay at Bush Village!!!

I chose this hostel as the reviews were so good, the advertising made it sound like the location was central and I wanted to see the baby kangaroos. Stupid me!

Firstly, it is more like a retirement village than a backpackers. Not only was there no atmosphere whatsoever, but the staff are a little weird. (Perhaps they need a day off to recoup or something?) They were certainly friendly until they found out I had already booked my trip before I got there - things went downhill once this was discovered though. Talk about a hard sell!!

All the advertising says they are right beside the main supermarket and the post office, but hello!! They are about 2 kilometres out of town - further than any of the other hostels, the main supermarket is actually miles away and the main post office is in Airlie Beach. And all those cute kangaroos on their brochure? Not one! And according to one of the shop owners in town, there haven't been any there for years now. What a con!

I stayed at this hostel for 2 nights, it definatley wasnt my cup of tea. The bus driver picked us up from the station and drove us at least 5 kilometers out of town, the curtesy bus was really late or really early, difficult to catch. I found the staff very un helpful, After reading the other reviews on this hostel it is possible that they were just having a bad week, if you stay here be prepared for bed bug bites, the owner said all the hostels up north have them, but I havent had them since, have fun I would recommend this place if you want a really, really, really quite time

I ended up staying at Bush Village for much longer than i had originally planned and even came back again a few months later with my family!! All the staff are so very nice and make you feel right at home. It is a wonderfully quiet and relaxing place to stay yet close enought to the craziness of town if you need to go there. I spent a lot of time just hangin' in the hammoks, even slept all night there a few times! Everyone is extremly helpful with booking any and all tours you may want to take and helping you with any onward travel plans if you can force yourself to leave! Great breakfast each morning with pretty birds comming to visit, and the free bus into town is a great bonus, but the walk to and from town is stunning with beautiful scenery, not too long a walk and you shouldn't be in that big a rush when you're on vacation anyway! But if you are in a rush, the taxi back only costs about $5 anyhow, so it really is no big deal, and you can walk to the supermarket from here, you can't do that from any of the other places. I fully recomend this place, you won't ever want to leave!! Love and miss all you guys out there, can't wait to get back. :p :p

the free bus is a godsend after travelling up from the sunshine coast overnight.

the staff were very friendly and willing to help you out however they can. The breakfast is great yet to early for some!!!

the bus didnt seem to stick the timetables, and you did have to be there 15 mins before the time on the timetable.

there are nightly movies shown and you can by drinks etc from reception up until 9 pm.

the cabins are big and spacious but did seem to share them with a colony of green ants ( horrible things!!) you get a tv, hobs, and toaster.

it is definatly not a party place and would suit people who wish to relax, and also get to sleep at night.

well worth a visit and would have stayed longer!

I stayed at Bush Village in September 2005 and was there for two weeks. I enjoyed every moment of my stay. The staff are so helpful and friendly and have a 'can do' attitude where nothing is too much trouble. The rooms were private and clean. The breakfast each morning was excellent. There is a free bus to and from town hourly so the fact they are a little out of the main street is not a worry. There is a supermarket right down the road and there is cooking facilities in both the communual area and your rooms at Bush. This is the perfect place to stay if you don't want to be amoungst all the noise and commotion in town. People here are respectful, friendly and I can't recommend Bush Village highly enough.
