BUG Review
Cloud Nine is a work in progress. Some areas of this small hostel - such as the common areas and dormitories - are gorgeous and while others - the bathrooms and kitchen - are lacking. To be fair, the kitchen was being renovated when we visited, but much of it appears to be dirty. They do have a bar, a movie room and a rooftop barbecue area with great views. It is quieter than its neighbour (Brisbane City Backpackers) but still has a cool atmosphere. For the price, it is a good choice.

The Horror!, September 15, 2008

Pros: near Roma St
Cons: the noise 24/7, the constant terrible music, that "kitchen"

To be fair this hostel wasn't all bad. It was full of friendly guests, and a few friendly staff. It was close to Roma St station (but so are many other backpackers), it was realatively cheap, and the deck was a plus.............

On the other hand I would never stay there again. I'm not sure what it was, the uncomfortable beds, the terrible kitchen, the deposit for everything kitchen related-even a glass, the loud terrible music that was playing over the PA system at 0130, most of the staff, maybe it was a combination of all of these.

Sure it was cheap, but spend a few extra dollars, get a decent kitchen, a good bed, and maybe even a few hours sleep!

Cloud 9 is a fun social place in the middle of Brisbane City, February 3, 2007

OK. Weve been in Brisbane before and have stayed at 2 of the other Hostels in the middle of the City. They were Ok but too big, noisy and not very friendly. Cloud 9 is small and the staff are happy and cruisy. The place has a nice vibe and we just had a great time here, made many friends and will stay in touch. Its also a few dollars cheaper than the other City Centre Hostels and yet becasue its such a new Hostel, lots nicer. The best things we found were thier Bar which is a totally grand Backpacker Bar. Every night they have wicked Happy Hours...we were buying glasses of beer for $1 and jugs for $5! They also ahve really cheap food and snacks in there. Some nights they give away Pizza for FREE! and also they do Aussie BarBQues for free too. The rooms are quiet, air conditioned and the beds are fully thick and soft..its the best sleep weve ever had in a backpackers. More like a nice Hotel. Bathrooms and nicely done too.

You wont believe their roof deck. You stand there and can see the twinkling lights of all the Brisbane City skyline and the beautiful river. An awesome spot to chill and watch the sunset. They have sun lounges up there for sun baking or snoozing too.

The bits they need to make better are defintely the kitchen area...for some reason its too small for the number of guests so can be a bit crowded at dinner time. It didnt really bother us cos we were buying cheap meals in the Bar or walking down the street to the cafes. But we cna see why some people get bothered by it. Overall though, this is our only complaint about Cloud 9. Its a great place, its small and friendly and we felt sad when we were leaving. The staff knew us by name and made the effort to sya goodbye to us and to give us their emails so we can stay in touch.

stayed here for a week...only because thats what i booked for but couldnt wait to move up the road. The kitchen was incredibly small and most of the time was dirty. Half of the reception staff were rude and unwelcoming- and their friends got special treatment. that said, the other half were very nice and helpful. all in all id say that the hostel would have been alright to stay in if you were part of the 'crowd' there, but there are better, more friendly hostels so why bother?

When we stayed here, the kitchen was so tiny for the amount of people staying in the hotel, tv room was so small and it was so busy! It is really a party hostel but really dirty......if you always drunk you may not noticed. Only stayed a night in the end!

Ths hostel has gone from warehouse to backpackers / yes, it is a new hostel...but the effort and work that has gone into it is amazing. Perhaps some of the people that have written about the 'bad things' have never visited a third world country and accommodated such dwellings or perhaps they have not paid $80 plus AUD to stay in an over crowded backpackers in England. I have stayed at Cloud 9, and as a traveller I can't complain about the place because to me, compared to many other places in the world, this place is pretty damn nice. If you feel like complaining then go book yourself into the Hilton ....Remember backpackers are about fun times and fun memories, not how the toilet paper was folded. It truly is a lovely place and I will always, as I have done, recommend Cloud 9 as the place to saty.

Cheap but lacks nice facilities, February 23, 2006

I've stayed here a few times usually only for a night when I need to leave early in the morning from roma street station. Its quite cheap for the large dorms and internet is reasonable. My biggest complaint is the lounge area to watch tv, it also doubles as the dining room to eat in and seating is limited. Its not very comfy or relaxing to lounge and watch tv. I'd suggest not getting the large dorm, I know the hostel has no control over who stays there, but it seems every time I go I have very rude people who turn on the lights in the middle of the night, or prop the door open all day and night which isn't safe for anyone's belongings. They do have signs saying don't prop open the doors, but I saw people who worked for the hostel walk right past the open doors all the time which was annoying, they should be enforcing it.

This place is a total dive, the only nice thing abuot it is the roof top, but even that is small and never cleaned.

The rooms are grotty, only the rubbish bins get emptied that's it! The kitchen it tiny, I have seen bigger ones in one bedroom flats, as for the dinning/lounge area this is totally disfunctional.

The building is noisy, and I don't mean the other guests, the actually building, plumbing sounds abound.

There are many other hostels that must be better than this one!

The location is fantastic but that's where it stops. I stayed with 2 friends for 3 nights. We were promised a room with a private bathroom and when we arrived we had to share with another room. They wouldn't transfer us to a room like the one we'd been promised either. When we got to the room, we looked at the bathroom: very smelly and filthy, dirty wet smelly towels on the floor, a faulty shower door. We notified management who cleaned the towels up and removed parts of the shower door. This meant that the bathroom floor flooded every time we had our stone cold showers. Room doors slammed constantly, all through the night. We paid $90 per night for the three of us to stay in the room and we received a $5 discount each on the entire stay. Very disappointing. I'd steer clear of it.

We ended up staying here cos the 1st Hostel we tried was full. OK no Hostel is perfect but Cloud 9 is very new and the best bits are the staff who are totally awesome, the views from their huge roof deck, the beds and rooms are the best of ANY Hostel we have ever stayed in, TRUE!!! A bigger kitchen would certainly help and the front of the place could do with some plants. But no big deal here...its a pity we havent been treated so well by the Staff in more Hostels here in Australia.

We will DEFINITELY come back here on our next trip to Oz....and Brisbane is a cool place tro hang for a while. We found work easily, the cost to hang here is less than most places in Australia, and the people are super friendly. I must admit we were totally surprised.

Anyway thanks for reading and enjoy your adventrues, fellow packBackers!!!
