BUG Review
Located in a 100-year-old heritage building in the Valley, this hostel is understandably in a state of disrepair. There is currently scaffolding covering the façade of the building and they are planning massive renovations. For now, the dorms and common areas are bland and messy. The kitchen is small and poorly-maintained. It is at the end of Brunswick Street near Chinatown, an interesting area just a short bus or train ride away from the city centre. Reception staff are very kind and helpful and keep the place rather quiet. Internet costs $4 per hour.

Stayed here on one of their new packages and was quietly impressed. Met a heap of people that have been here ages (all working in Brisbane) and that was good (especially in the pub). Very Clean and large comfy rooms with Aircon. Close to train and smack in the centre of ' the Valley' as the locals call it.

Highly recommend staying here as they are good about security.

Stayed 1 night as part of a package for the east coast I bought from Wanderers in Sydney. The rooms were massive, like 20 beds or so, although generally comfortable even if air-con seemed to be lacking. Facilities not bad, and the English pub downstairs is a good place to kick back although a little on the pricey side if, like me, you were missing english bitter and felt the need to buy a few pints.

Note - the area in which this hostel is located is on the seedy side, so be pretty careful if going out at night, especially by yourself. There were a lot of drunken aborigines loitering around when I was there, and although generally harmless, it can be a bit intimidating.

I stayed in the hostel for 3 weeks and had great fun. There were some bedbugs found in my room and it was evacuated the same morning and taken out of line. Unfort. I had my cd player stolen, could happen anywhere. Staff was nice, change of code to keep intruders out is more than welcomed, hot showers, clean rooms (but lack of windows in some rooms). Kitchen is nice and big, so is common area. Pubcrawl is just top of it all, thanks for all guys!

This place has nice big rooms and is for the most part pretty clean. The great thing about it is the location right in the heart of all the clubs and bars of the Fortitude Valley. Downtown Brisbane is only about a 15 minute walk away. The pub crawl that they offer is off the hook. Just like they tell you, your most likely to get so drunk that you have to crawl back to the hostel. The pub crawl is a great way to meet people as well.

Staff were really helpful with organising trips and buses and the pick up bus was great. The free beer was also welcome in the heat, as was the free brekkie. Great location for that great Brunswick Street market. Whatever you do though choose a room with aircon!! Couldn't sleep in the heat with no windows.

One of the rudest places I have ever stayed in and the stink from the pub below was bad.

The Prince Consort is located in the Valley area of Brisbane, just one stop on the train from the city centre. It's big enough to have all the facilities you need, including internet, a good pub downstairs and bottle shop and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are big and clean, the only problem being that you can't open the windows which means the rooms can get a bit stuffy. All in all though a good place to base yourself for a few days.

No one else had bed bugs...just "anonymous", December 29, 2002

I stayed at the same hostel when "anonymous" stayed. I actually stayed in the same room and personally had no problems. Neither did my mate who also stayed in the same room at the time. We said cheerio to our anonymous friend when she was moved to another room...and we felt horrible for her when she claimed the new room was bed bug ridden as well. We stayed on after anonymous departed us, despite us being bloody worried about ourselves...but not a single soul complained about any creepy crawlies. The bed bugs seemed to follow the poor girl so was it the bed...? Or was it the girl? Anonymous left the hostel, and funnily enough, so did the bed bugs! ???

In all honesty, the hostel was clean and modern, located in a good spot and has a cosy watering hole downstairs.
