BUG Review
This modern hostel is located next to its huge corner pub that gets really packed at night, but the hostel has little in the way of facilities otherwise. Dorms are modern with Ikea-like furniture, but are getting a little worn. The kitchen is large and well stocked and the TV room is relaxed and inviting. Security is first-rate. It has a great location and the reception staff are nice.

Its like a prison block., October 24, 2007

Pros: Location.
Cons: The nightly pub announcements, the crap air con

This hostel is very well located next to the transit centre.

The staff at reception are very friendly and efficient.

The room smelt of feet and ventilation obviously was bad. The air con was set at 26 degrees so it was too hot at night. the toilet didn't flush properly. the shower curtain was black, which kind of indicates that they chose that colour to minimise cleaning requirements. Basically the entire bathroom could do with being cleaned better.

there is a very noisy pub at the bottom of the building which does good food on the cheap. the hostel does announcements, piped diretly into the hostel rooms, for about an hour come 7 o clock about special promotions on in the pub. This is a bit unneccesary.

The common room is too small and really need common rooms on each level. The design of the common room is not great either as the focal point is the tv and thats it. The kitchen was a bit small but there was lots of fridge space.

I'd recommend a different hostel.

Good location and friendly staff. It's a bit loud at night until the adjacent bar closes at 1am. I'd stay there again.

We ended our east-coast trip here and didnt find it that bad. The check-in was friendly and our room was clean on arrival (unlike elcewhere!). The bar was allways busy which was nice if you wanted to meet people or grab a cheap bite to eat. the location of this hostel is great, right there by the bus station and trains, so excellent if you've got a flight to catch early!! Nice place to stay.

Expensive hostel in a good location, December 29, 2006
Reviewer: Jabe from Saltburn, UK

Pros: Very close to station, 24 hour Internet, clean
Cons: Smelly residents, snail-paced lift, duff aircon

My overriding memory of staying here was the stench of the 2 teenagers in my dorm who had somehow rustled up the $28 per night cost. The location is perfect for arrival/departure at/from the main station, plus the city centre is close. Facilities were generally good, in particular the 24 hour Internet, but the lift was painfully slow and the dorm aircon wasn't particularly powerful. The ground floor bar seemed to be busy 24/7, so I'm not sure if that would be irritating if you were staying on a low floor. I'd consider staying here again.

The best hostel in Australia! Wasn't a huge fan of Brisbane but this hostel is definitely top notch. Rooms are clean and ensuite, facilities are nice and new. Location is great as it's right across from the train station.

A Good Modern Hostel, March 12, 2006

This hostel has a lot going for it. It is less than 2 minutes walk from Roma St. station, 5 minutes from Queen St. the main shopping centre of Brisbane. It is clean, modern and has a job board and helpful staff who are willing to book you on local tours such as the XXXX Brewery at discount prices. All the rooms are air conditioned, have en-suite and come with free security lockers- the only problem with these is that most of them don't work. The tv room has plenty of space and the kitchen is in good condition. The bar downstairs is always busy, not just with backpackers but locals too- there for the cheap drink, good atmosphere and $5 Steaks on offer for 2 hours every day. I would definately recommend staying here but book in advance as it does get busy.

I've been here for 2 weeks...this is the funest hostel i have stayed at during my east coast travelling! The staff, especially the bar satff, are so fun and always "pumping hot"! The day i got here i became a staff member and loved it to death! The people here are amazing, the "balgoon" is always happening, the bar is brilliant, the doorms are combfortable and airconditioned and the kitchen is the cleanest one I have been in yet! If you stay in Brisbane check it out...right accross for the Transit Center...

Stayed at tinbilly backpackers for two nights and couldn,t wait to leave. Staff were rude on reception. The double rooms were fusty with no open windows. The cleaners walk in your room with out knocking whilst chatting on their mobile phones. The balcony was so small you couldn't swing a cat on it and residents had graffittied the walls in blue marker. I got biten on the first night by bed bugs (38 bites on my arm alone). The one star is for the downstairs bar, friendly staff and pool tables. Not in a great location, would advise staying at bunk in the valley.

Thanks guys for such a great stay, reception, bar staff were great help and housekeepers kept the place ship/shape. Facilities great, kitchen a bit small but the cafe always had great deals. Would definately recommend Tinbilly's.
