BUG Review
This hostel is also mainly used for workers. It is in a nice large building with verandas and a good swimming pool. The bathrooms are well maintained and clean, but the kitchens and dorms are a mess. Some of the dorms are in self-contained units which are just filthy. There is a pool table and TV room in the main building, but the place is boring, unorganised, and too far from the centre of town. It may be a better place to stay than some of the others if you are on working holiday.

OK, maybe thats a little harsh, but its not all its cracked up to be. The work side of things was ok, mainly had fairly well paid jobs, and the majority of the farmers are generally nice guys. From mid april onwards there is a lot of work, to the extent that you can pretty much pick and choose the job you want. The hostel side of things - not so good. If u stay in the house (dorm rooms) be prepared to share a tiny kitchen (with approx 1 knife, 1 pan etc) with 26 other people (and 2 dozen cockroaches). Also only 2 showers (although 1 always runs out of hot water) so thats good fun when 26 people all get back from work sweaty and dirty!! Most the rooms have bed bugs, not very pleasant. Very strict on 'RULES'. i.e NO DRINKING (which really sucks, when all u wanna do after work is sit down with a beer) - if you are caught drinking u WILL be thrown out (and they search your rooms from time to time). There are fines for a great array of things (dropping cigarette butts etc). You MAY not be so keen to swim in the pool (unless you enjoy various pond life!). I could go on...... BUT, needless to say, i actually enjoyed my bundy experience, ok, so the hostel was crap, but luckily for me i had a FANTASTIC group of people at the hostel, and we managed (god knows how) to have a pretty awesome time. My advice, spend as little time in the hostel as you can, spend ALL your time in the pub!! (apart from when you're working of course....how else will you afford the beer??)

Well I had agreat time staying here, the people the management the staff it could not get more comforting. As for work the farmer expected you to work hard but the pay was great my average was around $600 per week but had to put in a very hard effort remember you put in the effort you reap the rewards.I was here for six months and saved more than enough money to finish my travels in Australia. What more could you want come home from work and swim in the pool do your shopping with only a three minute walk and go out to a night club only five minutes walk away.

I'm so appalled by my experience of fruit-picking at the hands of this hosel I feel I should warn others.

Most of the work is piece work (contract)- so I'll earn roughly $4p/h. This is if you are lucky enough to be given work as the 'manager' organises the rota so you only ever earn enough money to pay your rent.

The farmer/hostel relationship is so mismanaged that farms (work) is lost on a regular basis, thus you can see why a rota was set up!

Finally, as previous reviewers have stated you may not even ge paid.

Oh, the rules for the hostel are applied by the letter not by the spirit.

I liked staying here and met some nice people but I'm still waiting to be paid for 1 of the 4 days of work I did in my 2 weeks there, (no pay; 6 weeks and waiting)....So much for the "more work than workers" that we were told when we inquired about staying! So- not much work and you'll be lucky if you get paid for the work you do. Some of the farmers I worked for were an absolute disgrace. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE.

I travelled round Oz with my mates, but this place really sticks in my mind. Met some great people from all walks of life. The pubs are good for a small town. Make sure you jump in the fountain at kicking out time! If your fruit picking, go in the right season or its very boring! Dont come here to earn money, cause after a day of fruit picking all you wanna do is get pissed.watch out for spiders too (as big as your hand!)

This is a well run hostel and it's pretty good all round. I stayed in the units out the back which were quite nice. They are cleaned well- and if you've ever been fruit picking you'll know that that's necessary- I have never been so dirty in my life.

There's a whole sort of hierarchy going on about who gets what fruit picking job - I suspect it's the same at other fruit picking hostels. The work seemed to be avail pretty much all the time. I didnt like the fruit picking - to earn reasonable money you have to work extremely hard, but that's another story.

There was a good friendly crowd here when we were there and there were a few good cheap pubs to go to.

After a week's fruit picking you feel like you have earned your beer!

Great atmoshphere, Great People, Clean, Tidy has all the facilities plus more. Within Walking distance to everything needed. No Alcohol rule is understandable although that was my only negative. Did their best to provide me with work regularly.
