BUG Review
Bohemia Resort is a bit far from the centre, but they have a frequent shuttle bus into town. The dorms are spacious and clean, with single beds and some with balconies. There is a nice resort size swimming pool and spa, an outdoor bar with a pool table and a great barbecue area. The kitchen is large and clean, but you have to pay a deposit at reception for cutlery and plates. There is also no refrigerator in the kitchen; instead there are small refrigerators in the dorms. There is internet access ($4 per hour) and free breakfast. The atmosphere here most of the time is very quiet, although weekends see late nights in the bar.

Had Bedbugs!!!, April 30, 2009

This hostel would have been great if it hadn't had bed bugs. The dorms are spacious and have single beds, the swimming pool and outdoor area are all great, but we were bitten to pieces here. When we were leaving the hostel, we were stripping the beds, and we even found a bed bug. We trapped it in a bottle and showed it to a cleaner who was near by. He promptly started blaming us saying we brought them with us (even though the last place we stayed at didn't have bed bugs). While he was arguing with us, a group of girls passing stopped to tell him that their room also had bed bugs. We told reception when we were checking out but the receptionist didn't seem to care and probably didn't do anything about it.

I had a great time here!, August 28, 2008
Reviewer: Aussie_Leigh from Near Melbourne, Australia

Pros: Nice pool area, friendly staff, sturdy beds
Cons: It's 30 mins walk from the city if you miss the hourly shuttle bus (which only runs til 10 or 11pm)

I stayed here in April 2008 and had loads of fun. The staff were friendly, the pool area was relaxing and I met some great people here too! It didn't have the biggest party atmosphere, which is probably because of its location. However, it did have a bar which was a nice place for a quiet drink or 6 before going into Cairns for a night out. The Frog n Toad pub crawl stops here on Wednesday and Friday nights too.

I was a bit apprehensive of staying here after reading the other reviews, but it looks like the Bohemia resort are listening (and more importantly acting).

We arrived on the overnight Greyhound, and were picked up from the station. The pickup was 15 mins late, but that wasn`t bad considering it was about 6:30am.

We had been told that check-in wasn`t till 2pm, but the staff were nice, and managed to get us a double room straight off. (I think we were lucky it wasn`t full).

The room was very impressive, large double bed, big clean bathroom, TV and air-con. The tiled floor did get a bit slippy after a shower, but there was no mould like we had feared.

The hourly bus takes you to the centre of town, but its often full. The walk is about 30 mins, along streets with no pavements (what is it about Cairns!!)

Overall, I was glad to stay there, certainly a step up from the horrors of Koalas!!

After a 4 hour flight from darwin we couldnt wait to get to 'Bohemia' and jump straight in the pool we'd seen in the glossy brochure....once we managed to drag our belongings to the reception we spent the next hour paying deposits for everything....only to be given a moldy tub full of moldy cutlery...to be used in the moldy kitchen....!!! The room consisted of a cold tiled floor, a moldy sink and a moldy fridge....and three moldy beds...!! The staff and owners at Bohemia in my view were rude arrogant and obnoxous and clearly out to make money from hard up backpackers. After our room flooded twice in as many hours, we were spoken to very rudely and offered no refund or apology we moved down the road to the serpent Hostel which was like a 5 star palace compaired to this dump....

Good place to stay but far from town, February 16, 2006

No bunk beds, spacious rooms. Very hot in Cairns but the pool here made it aright. Large patio with tables and nearby bar. Fully equiped kitchen with plenty of utilities. The only bad thing was that it was far from the nightlife, however they offered a shuttle that went downtown and back until midnight or so. Good place to book reef tours from. Had lots of fun snorkeling with the turtles and colorful fish. Pretty good place to stay if you wanna relax and enjoy the heat.

Bohemia looks great and has a hotel like pool area, but it is run more like an army camp. You have a fridge in your room, but they do check the contents and will keep your alcohol. You get grief from the staff if you hang any washing on the balcony and the kichen is too small and shuts quite early we only stayed for two nights then moved to the Calypso which is much better.

This is a pretty good hostel! The rooms are nice and clean and all have their own fridge. The bathrooms are okay but could be a bit cleaner. The kitchen is a bit small and can get messy (like most hostels!). However, the pool is very nice with a great bar and movies outside on the big screen every night. It is a bit far from the centre (about 30mins walk) but there are (not very frequent) shuttle buses. Overall not a bad place.

We stayed here for 6 nights and really enjoyed our stay. It is a bit far out of town but it's a great place to relax with good quality, clean accommodation. There is a shuttle bus into town, however that begins at 12pm and runs only once an hour.
