BUG Review
Gecko's is a large yet quaint hostel next to the train station. The dorms are appealing and well-maintained and bathrooms are spotless. The kitchen isn't much, but it has what you need, and guests get free breakfast as well as a free evening meal. It has a nice swimming pool and barbecue in the back yard, a small TV lounge and internet access ($3 per hour). The hostel is breezy and homely, the beds are new and comfortable, and the double rooms are great value. The price is right and reception staff are kind.

Thank goodness we stumbled on this place!
Home from Home,friendly fun people and nice quite rooms.
Next time we are in Cairns we'll definately be back for more!

I had a great stay here.....its such a welcoming place. Its about a 5 minute stagger to all the bars so close enough to the centre of town, but is in quite a quiet location.All the staff are so friendly.....they picked me up from the hostel I'd originally booked into, booked all my trips, gave me loads of tips about where to go and what to do, and even drove me around town looking for a bridesmaid's dress!!The hostel is spotlessly clean, the beds are comfy, there's a nice area to sit out and because people feel so welcome there, there is a great atmosphere - people get on, hang out....They are pretty strict about keeping the noise down at night....which is good because the place is fairly open plan.....but it doesn't stop anyone having a good time it seems...If you're planning a stay in Cairns I really recommend you to book yourself into Gecko's...I liked it so much that I didn't want to leave. But I had to in the end :-(
