BUG Review
Shennanigan's has dormitory accommodation above a great corner pub of the same name. The air-conditioned dorms are well maintained with new beds and the bathrooms are clean. The kitchen is a bit empty but is otherwise well-kept, there is a small TV lounge with new comfy couches and a large upstairs veranda perfect for socialising at night. Guests get free breakfast and 15 minutes of free internet a day. It is a good standard of accommodation with a great atmosphere, although with the bar and location on a busy street, it can get pretty noisy at night.

I stayed here for a little over a week. The first 2 night was $18 for an 8 bed dorm and $17 there after. To me this price was excellent! You can't get better for the value of this place. As well this is the cleanest hostel I've been to. It is cleaned thoroughly everyday by the staff! The showers and bathrooms are co-ed and outside of the rooms, but they are very clean and work very well! The kitchen is big and they supply all the dishes and utensils, unlike some hostels, as well you have a large fridge in your room to store your food! Also there is a large screen tv with 2 couches which makes for a very warm and friendly environment. ITs easy to meet people here and there is a large balcony to eat and drink on. I like also that there is a bar footsteps away to drink at. And you get 50% off the dinner at the bar below and 10mins free internet everyday to check your email. Not to mention its located in the city center so you are within walking distance from everything, the lagoon, the shopping center, other bars. Overall, to me, this place has everything you need as a backpacker and for an excellent price! I definitely suggest and recommend staying here!

I would recommend this hostel to anyone. At $17 a night it is a bargain and I was shocked when I saw the facilities it had to offer. The 52 inch TV, sofas, the bar and live music, the huge verandah to sit out and eat and drink. The fact that the staff are so friendly really helped me to enjoy my stay here. If you are staying in Cairns, stay at Shanninigans!

I stayed in this hostel for a few nights (unfortunately as everywhere else was booked) and I thought it was the worst hostel I'd stayed in in Australia. The staff were unhelpful and the rooms were below average. I asked one of the staff (nicely) in the room next door to lower his voice (at 4.30am) and stop shouting and his reply was "Irish bitch!" I ended up working for quite a while in Cairns and having learned alot about the hostels I can honestly say it's the worst of the lot. Maybe it's fine if you're 17.

We may have been lucky because the hostel was full so we got a motel room for the same price but nevertheless, Shenannigans is fantastic. We got free dinner every night and it was excellent grub. The pub is such a laugh and for staying there, you get beer vouchers! Ended up staying for 6 weeks and I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd go back tomorrow if I could. Made loads of friends there too. The staff are brilliant. Anna Dunphy
