This was a lovely hostel - YHA hostels seem to be of the best standards. Breakfast was provided and was very good quality. Our room was huge and we could see the airport landing strip from our window - very cool but not noisy at all. There was a ping pong table, pool table and bookswap shelves which all helped contribute to the relaxed atmosphere. A nice stay.

Small cosy friendly hostel. the staff are wicked, although most of the guests seem to be locals... not many international backpackers here.. surf board and bike hire and its right opposite the beach! the dorms are spacious and very clean so is the bathrooms. caters for disabled guests also.. love it here, would highly recommend it!!

This hostel is the coolest I've stayed in anywhere in Australia. The "all you can eat FREE breakfast" is second to none. You can get a good breakfast in before you jump on the FREE shuttle that takes you to Snapper or D-Bah 4 times a day. You can then get picked up, come back to the hostel and chill out watching the many surf movies available to pump you up for the arvo session. The place is clean and the staff are extra friendly. I can't rate it highly enough. Get your arses there to check it out

It was an awesome atmosphere, full of friendly staff and surfers to chill & have a great surf/party with! The hostel bus ran many times a day to take you right to the surf beach and back everyday. Not to mention the yummy fresh fruit, cereal & toast for breakfast and best of all its for FREE!!! => The pool & facilities are always immaculate and caters for all your needs incl. kewl hot surf chicks!! =>

I have stayed at the Cooly YHA numerous times and it is my number 1 holiday destination. Being located next to the best surf spots in australia with a free bus to take you there and pick you up 4 times a day, some sick surf stores and other shops are less than 10 mins walk, Kirra beach is 150m away for running or swimming, and some rockin night clubs at cooly I always leave satisfied. The staff are super helpful and are always a buzzer call away. Prices are low so hard earned cash can be spent on more important things (like a new board). Gotta keep going back for more.

ps. for a free breakfast they put on a pretty good feed.

For the past five weeks I have been staying in this hostel and have found it to be extremely hospitable, clean and heaps of fun made more so by the lovely friendly staff, working here. The courtesy bus to Snapper and D-bah is an added bonus which enhances this hostel's desirability even further especially for surfers. I was somewhat shocked when I read past reviews and can certainly guarantee that what has been written is not the case in point with this charming hostel.

Lucky I didn't read some of the reviews here before booking... This place is AWESOME. It's a very tranquil and chilled out environment. I found the place to be exceptionally clean and tidy. The staff here were friendly and helpful. There were a couple of times when the office was unattended, but the press of a buzzer was all it took to get immediate assistance. I've stayed at a few hostels in Australia, and this has been the best yet. A perfect place to get away from it all. The beaches are so close you can walk, and there is world class surf nearby, easily accesssible by the FREE shuttle service provided by the hostel. I'd recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life...

Only stayed here 1 night thank god. Room had frogs, spiders and cockroaches in it, obviouslly hadn't been cleaned for months. Then there were the mice/rats (either large mice, or small rats) that occupied the lounge area. Its miles from anything, the staff are rude and right next to an airport. Stay anywhere else but here!

This YHA has to be the worst in Australia. Its loctaion is miles away from anything, and at an airport, you have to cross a freeway (no bridge!) to get anywhere near the beach, let alone a shop. The staff were rude and very unhelpful, and were always to busy to help, reception was always closed and the place was empty. Breakfast was free and consisted of stale bread, the rooms were musty and cold, but were ok for the price.

They do run a minibus to the greyhound but only at certain times, we could only get dropped into the town 2 hours before our greyhound left so we sat on a pavement and had to wait! not so great.

Overall the place was clean, but the staff were rude and unhelpful and the place was empty and had no atmosphere, wouldnt recommend this hostel unless you like the peace and quiet, oh apart from the planes!
