We stayed here for 3 nights before going to Fraser Island (hostel booked this for us). We seemed to be one of only 3 rooms occupied, but that meant we got the pool to ourselves. (could do with some loungers though). Friendly staff, and Marina on reception is a gem. They gave us vouchers for the hotel/pub down the road to get 10 dollar meals, which were adequate for the price. 3 minute walk to the supermarket, pub, etc. We walked the whole 4.5 Km to the very long pier, and back, and there is plenty in Hervey bay to keep you occupied. Hostel charged 50 bucks per night for our apartment, which is good value.

We had our room broken into and our wallets and personal stuff stolen and the staff didn't even care. When we went to the police they said it was the number 1 place in hervey bay for break ins. It wasn't that clean either. We stayed at The Friendly Hostel when we got back from Fraser Island and it was so much better.

My partner & i were staying in a 1 br unit, which has windows that can be easily opened and allowed someone to enter the unit without even breaking something, stealing our walllets from the lounge room while we were sleeping. The hostel owner didn't give us any compensation and apparently it happens all the time! Be warned, keep valuables nearby and i suggest staying at the Friendly Hostel instead, its cleaner, nicer, friendlier and secure!

I have been to many hostels and I think that this was the first hostel where the staff went out of their way for you! The hostel itself was clean and the rooms or should I say apartments were lovely!! It so nice to have your own bathroom, that actually includes a bath not just a shower! It was clean and comfy and I cannot stress enough how wonderful the staff were and how cheap yet amazing the accomodation was! If your in Hervey Bay do yourself a favour and go and stay here you will not regret it!!

This place is awesome! We had our own CLEAN unit complete with kitchen, kitchen table, refrigerator, futon AND queen bed. We didn't stay long so I can't say what the social atmosphere is like but it would seem to me that this is a great place if you're looking for a quiet location to spend the night.

The office was very helpful in booking our Fraser Island tour and someone stayed after hours to greet us since we arrived around 10 p.m.

The only downer is that I don't think they do regular shuttles anywhere though the owner did offer to drive us back to the bus station on our way out of town.

In short, this place is probably the Taj Mahal of hostels in Hervey Bay. Definitely recommend that you stay there.

if your going to hervey bay billabong beach house is a must. they provide self contained units ( own kitchen, bathroom, lounge with tv) aswell as internet access, a pool and bbq area. this is all at the price of a hostel dorm, if not cheaper. sort out all your fraser island needs on arrival, designer packages to suit every individual, for eg, the four of us hired our own 4 wheel drive for 3 days with all equipment included for a very reasonable price. we had such a good time we ended up staying a lot longer than planned. the staff are friendly and hospitable, often go out of their way to help in any way possible. tonight they are cooking us a bbq, last night they took us out on the town, which was cool. hervey bay is not just a gateway to fraser island, it is a lovely little place to stay. the beach is just across the road, and supermarkets are a stones throw away. just thought we would pass on this information for people heading this way.
