BUG Review
This hostel is a mix of caravans, campsites and two unit self-contained dorms with kitchenettes and clean bathrooms. The large "Dingo Bar" has pool tables and theme nights. There is also laundry, internet access ($4 per hour), a barbecue area and tour desk. Reception staff are very friendly, but there is barely any backpackers' atmosphere. It is a good value for the price.
Price Dorm bed $15-18 Double room $40-60 Camping $5-10 per person Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
Credit Cards MasterCard,Visa
Reception Open 7am-9pm daily

only staying here one night was more than enough fo rme, the place is an old caravan park i think. from the moment we got picked up in the bus with a banner for 9 dollar rooms and when we got there it ended up being almost 20 bucks a night. the bar here is awesome and a really good time but stay somewhere else PLEASE, this place is the pits and the staff and management are rude and have no idea. the vehicle i was going to frasier in was a rust bucket so i changed my trip to some where else and checked out. please people don't let these people take your hard earned money. theres plenty of better places to stay and much better 4wd to rent. avoid fraser escape

after spending just one night in this old caravan park i thought i would let everybody else know about them. I read a previous review (2yrs old mind you) about the owners. They are nothing but dishonest robbing cheating owners who try and send people out in 4wd that look digusting and let alone how dangerous they are. the only good thing this place has is the bar which was really fun. DOn't waste your time here, if you have a fraser trip change it to another company in hervey bay

Rude, incompetent staff who are unwilling to deal with any complaints but happy to take deposits. Poor quality tents, 4x4's that are blatently top heavy (unlike other tour operators) and renowed amoungst rangers upon the island for never having a permit for second night camping. In conclusion they are a complete discrace, I cannot believe companies like travel bugs are willing to assoiciate with people like this. A real con, use another company and enjoy your stay on Fraser. We couldn't wait to get there but after only one day were desprate to return. There are many better tour operators in Harvey Bay.

Really enjoyed my stay at Fraser Escape. The accomodation nearly made me cry when we first walked through the gates and saw the caravan thingies, but i was pleasantly surprised! They were clean and fairly spacious. The trip itself went without a hitch (pretty much anyway!). The night spent there upon our return from Fraser Island was excellent. The room was more like a little flat! It slept 7, but had it's own shower and toilet - which after camping for 3 days felt like winning the lottery! The best thing about this backpackers was the nightlife. There aren't hundreds of pubs & clubs like some other places, but then aren't things what you make of them?! The hostel bar was fantastic, really friendly staff, who were willing to keep the bar open until the very last minute despite there only being about 10 of us there - and then decided to join us for a beverage or 3! The Irish pub round the corner was a good 'craic' too!Definitle stay here!!

I stayed at Fraser Escape for only the pre and post accommodation for my Fraser Tour i did with them. Not only were we put into a fully equipped cabins but friends we made on the trip stayed in one of the caravans which seemed to be just as good. I am not sure what some people expected of this great hostel, but a clean hostel and a bed for $9 a night was just fine with me. The Bar was a great bonus with awesome drink specials and wonderful staff made our trip unforgettable. Totally recommended.

The trip with them wasnt bad. Our equippment was fine and it all went off without a hitch. As far as the hostel goes- its cheap, you get what you pay for. It wouldnt have minded it that much if that stupid drunken girl in my dorm didnt puke all over my boyfriend's bed, and his stuff, and my shoes- and then refused to give me money to buy new ones. Not to mention that my friend was the one cleaning up her puke. I guess that made the hostel seem worse than it actually was.

First things first - had this website allowed me to allocate absolutely no stars to this hostel - I would have done. Unfortunately though - I have been forced to give them some credit in the form of one star.I suppose we should have realised that we were in for a bad time when the second we entered the hostel we were presented with a list of extra payments of which we had not been told of before booking this tour. Fair enough insurance etc - but their list was endless. Our group were the only in the hostel to be given a hire vehicle from Thrifty rather than one of the hostels own. One of our group made an expection of the vehicle as best he could but we soon discovered that the sly bu**ers had the tarpaulin on the roof very strategically placed so as to cover a dent that had obviously been caused by their incompetance and that they were dying to frame some backpackers for. This is exactly what they did...within two seconds of our return this barely noticable dent was spotted by an uneducated Kiwi who kept referring to one Irish member of our group as a 'f*cking pomme'.Needless to say we tried to stick up for ourselves to which another member of the group was nicely referred to as a 'childish c*nt' at the top of his voice. We lost alot of money to these no-hopers who's only chance of making anything of life is to scab off backpackers. Speaking to locals about it the following morning - each and all had horror stories about how various groups have been kicked out of the hostel for sticking up for themselves. Basically - if you can avoid staying with this crowd of unproffesionals, you'd be better off.

The hostel was alright for how cheap it was. Basically you get a $9 bed!The main problem was the tour to Fraser Island. The equipment we were given was rubbish, tents weren't waterproof etc. When we tried to complain we were effectively told to f#@k off at first and only through being persistent did they listen to us, admit their stuff was crap but that they were slowly upgrading it.
