BUG Review
Aussie Woolshed Backpackers has a few small dorms that are clean and well kept plus internet access ($4 per hour) and a kitchen/common area that is modelled after a traditional Australian woolshed. The kitchen is nothing special but it has all the necessary fittings. The beds are comfortable and the friendly and the family run hostel has a quiet homely atmosphere. Like most other hostels in Hervey Bay, they also organise tours to Fraser Island.
Price Dorm bed $18-22 Double/twin room $46-64 Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

Very competent, helpful and friendly staff. Reception is only open 7 AM to 7 PM and Internet access is limited to these hours, no WiFi. Nice dining area with plenty of seating capacity. The cooking and storing facilities in the kitchen are too small, not practical and dirty. No complementary breakfast. Clean and cozy rooms with good beds but only two common bathrooms and showers. There is only one washing machine and no possibilities for washing your clothes by hand. Well worth a stay.
Pros:
larger rooms and well set out dorms
Cons:
No air conditioning

I stayed here before i headed off to Fraser Island and again once I returned. It was basic and clean and there was nothing substantially wrong with it. The rooms were quite large compared to any other hostel i had stayed in and were well set out.
Hervey Bay doesn't have a lot to do so if your only staying one night then I would recommend. However the storage facility is a shed hidden away amongst the garden and striked me as a little unsecure when I was just given the key to go and put my stuff in it myself. If anyone else's stuff had been stored there and somebody wanted to steal it, it could have gone missing. That said my suitcase was still there when I returned and was probably too heavy for anyone to consider stealing .
Its a spacious hostel and i would recommend. Toilets and showers seemed to be very clean.

Here's a big thank you to "The Woolshed".Due to problems with our car we had to stay in Hervey Bay for more than a week and luckily we chose to stay at the Woolshed. We had a lovely, absolutely spacious twin room with bathroom. The room was hotel-standard, big comfy beds, doonas, towels, there was a separate sitting area and the greatest of all luxuries, there was always plenty of hot water (we had many, many cold showers while staying in certain other places). The facilities were exellent & very clean. Huge garden & outside sitting areas. We loved the commonroom/kitchen. It is done up like some cosy old country pub with lots of wood and saddles, old tools, lamps & so on hanging of the huge posts, cool. The kitchen was well equipped & clean. We made friends with their pet possum (& baby) that came to visit most nights. We were so grateful for all the help with our broken down car. The owner helped us to arrange a garage and took us twice to garage at the other end of town. There were also plenty of phone calls he made for us.All up we had a great and relaxing stay (despite all the car trouble).

Stayed here for one week. Nicknamed the place "Back in 15 Minutes" coz they're never there & when they are you dont get any words out of 'em. Got there on a sunday and wasn't shown around. Only given a bloody map ! Male owner is miserable & rude. No teaspoons, only 2 knives in the joint, no cooker, no hot water, no washing liquid for first 2 days yet note says if you dont want dishes you'll get $10 deposit taken off you, no plugs for sink in room, bath had no plug & couldn't use anyway coz of crack, expect mosquito bites galore, no bulb in lamp, no way of knowing how to use washer, washing line covered in old clothes strewn on ground, grounds are not kept tidy, owners took day off on our 2nd day without telling us & no tel no. was left so we couldn't do any washing, or anything ! Besides from this, you also have to unmake your own bed & take all your linen to reception when you leave ! We've never heard anything like it ! No good mornings, goodbyes or anything. Mind you, we only saw about 1 or 2 people staying for just one night at any time during the week. Lonely, dark, dismal, miserable .... and thats the owners & the place !! NEVER EVER again will we go back there. We paid less for a 2 bed beautiful apartment Lisianna on Esplanade for the next week and sooooooo glad we're out of there !! Please for your own sakes .... STAY AWAY!

Very pleasant surroundings, ideally located in convenient proximity to the shops and beach. An exelent contrast to the non-stop incessant stresses of Fraser Island - Highly recomended.Dave and Kieran (manchester England).

Beautiful place, very clean it feels like home with the two dogs and all the different animals in the garden and also the owners walking around doing stuff with big smiles on thier faces. We also liked the way the rooms are decorated with a country theme. It was so nice to be able to sit down relax and cook a proper dinner for once. Beautiful atmosphere deffinatley the best place we have stayed in so far from sydney to townsville.
