BUG Review
This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it is a real gem. The interior is painted in beachy blues and violets, with personal touches like flowers and art adorning the halls. The air-conditioned dorms are cheerful and impeccably clean. The kitchen is also well maintained and has all the fittings, including a good working oven. It is open and breezy, with a beautiful swimming pool nestled in lush gardens and palm trees, a barbecue area and laundry facilities. The common room/TV lounge is cosy and convivial, and the bathroom has a spa bath. There is also a games room with pool table. It is a five-minute walk from the centre of town, near nice beaches and rainforest. The family who run this hostel are a lovely and gregarious lot who really provide a home away from home. Australia needs more places like this.

i stayed here last december for 3 nights. for a start DO NOT stay at mission beach for more than one night - there is nothing to do. the hostel was large with fairly average facilites although there were only 3 toilets and showers between 30 people. the lack of locks on doors was bad and the rooms were a little dirty and stale including bed bugs fitted as standard. the staff were friendly and helpful most of the time although the atmosphere was all about if your face fitted. i wouldn't stay here again.

The Beach Shack is without doubt the greatest hostel I've ever stayed at. Right on the beautiful sandy beach, with facilities that should be standard in all hostels (but aren't) like a free pool table and sea kayaks that you can borrow for free too (I'd recommend taking one over to Dunk Island but MAKE SURE YOU WEAR SUNSCREEN - I didn't!) No problems with the cleanliness - it was spotlessly clean when I was there. The hostel and staff make you feel like locks really wouldn't be used even if there were any - as everyone knows each other! And as for the BBQ - hell yeah!! Elliot makes the best apple crumble on the planet!! All in all a great place to stay. It's small, cosy, all the staff are super-friendly and really work hard to make your stay special... go there and see for yourself!!

This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Our room was dirty and didn't have a lock on the door. We were staying in a double and had staff walk into our room twice without knocking. They brag about the jaccuzzi bath which didn't even work when we were there and was bloody filthy. ***EDITED TO COMPLY WITH BUG'S REVIEW GUIDELINES***. We stayed one night and left the next morning as early as we could. Do not stay in this place as it should be closed down!

The beachshack is just an wonderful place. Located about 20 meters from the beach. it only takes a 20 seconds walk to the ocean. This place just feels like being at home. No, it feels even better. This is for sure one of the best hostels I ever saw.

Making friends was never easier and it felt really good to enjoy dinner with seven people instead of making your own. Everybody is very social, a thing what some other hostels lack. The free pooltable gives the perfect oppurtunity to discuss the adventures of the day with new and old friends and the the BYO bar is just in the perfect location: on the balcony. Perfect place to chill.

Elliot does the best he can to book your tours and find the best deals, and he sure does find them. He tries as long as necessary to get the best valued trip.

I really regret it that I can only travel for one month. I'm sure, taht if I would have had the time, I 'd spent more than the week I've spent here now. This truly is paradise.

There's no doubt if I visit this place again. I sure will! And hope to see Elliot, and Noam, the friendly bottleshop and pickup-service driver, again when I do!

I higly recommend this place! Perfect atmosphere, perfect staff...perfect paradise!

This was my least favorite hostel I stayed in while traveling north. They gave our room away the first night, due to "computer failure" so forced to stick 4 people into the only vacant 1 bed hotel in mission beach. Stayed at Mission beach the next night, and was even more disappointed about staying there than the hotel. The most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept on. I ended up sleeping on the floor (because it was more comfortable), then waking up to cock roaches everwhere. One a brighter note the night life at the shack was descent. The other people staying there were fun and had a good time with them. Overall impression is that there are 2 or 3 other hostels on Mission beach and if I went back to Mission beach I would go to another one before I went back to the Beach Shack.
