BUG Review
The Treehouse is in the rainforest a bit far from the centre of town, giving it a retreat-like ambience. The large wooden building is open and airy with hammocks and nice views, and the main common area has a large deck overlooking a nice swimming pool. The bathrooms are under renovation and should be brand new by the time of publication. Dorm rooms are breezy and clean with nice beds, high ceilings and wood beams. There is no air conditioning so it can get muggy if there is no breeze coming through the big windows. There is a lounge area, a few steps away from the main building, for anyone who wants to stay up late and make any kind of noise. The Treehouse is a good place to chill out and socialise, but not to party.

It was a few years ago that I stayed at the Treeshouse (may - aug 2003) and it was the best part of my travels round oz! It's the atmosphere and the location that make this place unique. I think it's the rainforest circeling you and the endless hours wandering the deserted paridise beaches, that make the visitors and staff here so unique! There's no TV, but a stunning pool! No Aircon but spacious hang mats! They have BBQ's and pets and are endlessly welcoming! If you like this sort of thing, you'll love this place!

Thinking it would be a clean, well maintained YHA hostel, We spent two nights in here. How wrong we were. It was poorly kept, very unclean, and the staff didnt want to know, they were unhelpful and un friendly. It is quite impressive, a huge wooden building in the middle of the rain forest, with some work and a bit of upkeep it could be nice. However there rooms were hot and had no airconditioning or way of cooling down, which is what you want in a rain forest. The rooms are overpriced with little security. The showers and toilets were filthy and full of insects and spiders, there were litterally hundreds of spiders big and small lining the walls of the showers, so not the place to go if you dont like them. The walls were paper thin so you could hear everything, from music and shouting keeping you up all night to the staff "cleaning" in the morning. It seems to have a cool image because its full of middle aged lesbian hippies who think the alternative life style is the way to go for backpackers. Sadly the alternatvive life style doesnt include hygene as proved by the state of the kitchen. It is miles from anywere which has its good point but if you want to get out and do things you have to wait for the mini bus which runs hourly. Nice setting and views but if you want to share a hostel with insects and 50 yr old bra-less wonders this is for you. You couldnt pay me to stay there again!

I spent a total of four months camping at this hostel with my two small children. The treehouse was particularly welcoming to our family, most hostels dont really make it easy for families..just not "cool "enough!. I liked the fact the house had no TV or radio, this fact combined with the quiet times enabled fellow travellers to easily communicate with out small talk pscho-babble!. We were able to completely relax here with many hours spent swinging in the hammocks, enjoying the pool or chatting on the balconies. Sure the Kitchen could do with being a bit larger and better equiped . The treehouse is a truly unique place to visit and I couldnt reccommend it more highly if you want a place to stay which is less commercialised than most hostels in this area..We loved it...The Cassowaries, stag beetles, Grasshoppers, even the cane toads. This is tropical queensland after all.

The staff were wonderful to us, thankyou all

I have been going back to the Treehouse twice a year for the past 5 years now. I have travelled to a great many places around the world and I am happiest at the Treehouse. It never dissapoints me. I love the view of the rainforest, the beautiful pool, the hammocks, the ghekos, the skinks and even the cane toads....more than anything I meet the nicest people every time I go and have made some very special friends from all around the world. Atmosphere, relaxation and friendly staff every time.

Great location, great atmosphere, great place to chill, THe rooms and bathroom facilities are nothing to write home about, bathrooms are particularly grotty, kitchen is good and well equipped. But the common areas are fantastic, lovely lounge area, deck and pool area is very relaxing, hammocks everywhere, the walls are covered in little verses of poems and philosophy. Very friendly staff and atmosphere, Just a great place to relax and enjoy yourself

was looking forward to spending 2 days relaxing but instead spent 1 evening trying to read with constant rock music blaring until 10.30pm.tree house is in a gorg location but tries too hard to be cool.very thin walls between rooms & the lounge/kitchen & staff woke us up at 6.30am washing up & generally being loud & inconsiderate.

I hated my stay in the Treehouse and couldn't wait to leave!!!

I found the place to be filthy and in need of repair!! There was a filthy cat sleeping on top of the clean sheets so we didn't even want to use them!! On going to our room we found that the people that were staying there before us still hadn't moved out!!! And we arrived late afternoon!!

Everything in the place looked very worn and not a bit like the pictures in the brochure!! We were eaten alive by mosquitoes and the doors didn't even lock so we didn't even feel very secure leaving our belongings there!! Bathrooms looked grotty as well!!

If you're looking for a bar you'll be hard pressed to find one and as for the quiet times between ten and ten and one and five!!!

Very surprised that this is a YHA hostel and would not recommend staying there at all!!!!!!

I loved this place. It has a really chilled out and friendly atmosphere, lots of books and magazines to read, board games to play with fellow guests, hammocks to sleep in by the pool, sunny balconies and interesting little bits and pieces on all the walls. it's a great place spend a few days (or weeks!) relaxing.
