BUG Review
Koala is a party hostel. It has a great bar, a clear swimming pool, volleyball court, free use of bikes and surfboards, and a frequent shuttle service. There is also the usual laundry, internet access ($3 per hour) and barbecue. Unfortunately the rooms are bare and the bathrooms are hideous. The kitchen is basic and on the dirty side and the hostel is due for a facelift. It does have a good location, and surprisingly for a party hostel, reception staff are kind and attentive. They organise daily trips and nightly events and Koala Adventures travel agency has heaps of tours and excursions available.

overpriced scumhole, December 26, 2009

I was warned about this place when I traveling to Noosa. The rooms were 7 beds but really there should of only been up to 6 in a room. Ensuite shower was ok but if you wanted to use the toilet and someone was in the shower you had to wait.

The kitchen was awful, flies everywhere and you have pay a deposit for crockery and cutlery (getting so fed up with hostels that do this)

Dont stay at this hostel appartently Dolphin Beach Backpackers is much better and this goes for all koala hostels (Hervey Bay, Airlie etc - I have not heard a good word about any of them!)

This is a good hostel if you want one with a lively atmosphere. The rooms are pretty basic, but they are very spacious and have everything you need. The pool is a good place to chill, and the hostel staff are friendly and helpful. There's a bar too where everyone goes and the drinks were pretty cheap. Basically, if you want a hostel where you want to meet lots of people, this is the one you want to be at.

Fun! Fun! Fun! I went to koala's to stay 2 nights and i ended up staying over a week! Great hostel, they even provided free pick up and drop off to the bus station. I've heard good and bad comments about koala's, but i found it to be great. Heaps of fun at the bar, even dressed up in garbage bags for one of their theme nights. The staff a crazy (in a good way), they are so much fun and helpfull. Thanks guys, i will be back!

Kickin, fun bar, but after you party you have to return to a fairly nasty room (IF you return to your room....). Basically, thought it was a fun place, but the facilities could all use a major re-do.

i paid for a double room to get a decent sleep but found that for the extra $25 i was sleeping in a dorm behind a sheet of paper with door. the 'room' was filthy and crawling with fleas. the attached dorm was dirty and the bathroom (shared by 8 of us) was rancid. there was no chance of sleeping what with the chomping of the bed bugs, the shrieks of the intoxicated/stoned dorm residents and the relentlessly bright outside light by my window. the free bus service has a very frequent timetable but doesnt actually follow this - hence i was stranded at the furthest beach with a boogie board and back pack to lug back to the pit, sorry hostel.

Only spent a night at this hostel in 2004 as we got out there asap! The place was crawling with cockroaches and the toilet/shower was disgusting. There were a lot of facilities and it was a great night out in the pub! Also had to pay extra money for a blanket on your bed and had found it quite pricey already for low season! But overall i wound not recommend this hostel!

We stayed in a double room for 2 nights. It was ok for 2 nights, but would have much rather stayed at the YHA which had a more central location and looked really nice. The rooms were old, and had a kind of stale smell. The double room is a locked room in a 6 bed dorm, and you share the bathroom with them and one other double room. We were lucky, as there was only one other person in the double room and the dorm was empty. Might be a bit of a nightmare sharing the bathroom with a 6 bed dorm though if it was full! Also you had to walk through the dorm to get to the bathroom. This place definately needs a major uplift. I have paid less for double rooms and have had a lot nicer!

if you are looking at getting work in this hostel don't really!! bad idea, bad management, bad pay, the staff house is shit, you get sacked for everything, the bar is overcrowded with 18 yr old locals wanting a cheap shag forget sleeping, if your female and on your own stay at the thomas street hostel much nicer safer and more central xxxx
