BUG Review
Koala is a party hostel. It has a great bar, a clear swimming pool, volleyball court, free use of bikes and surfboards, and a frequent shuttle service. There is also the usual laundry, internet access ($3 per hour) and barbecue. Unfortunately the rooms are bare and the bathrooms are hideous. The kitchen is basic and on the dirty side and the hostel is due for a facelift. It does have a good location, and surprisingly for a party hostel, reception staff are kind and attentive. They organise daily trips and nightly events and Koala Adventures travel agency has heaps of tours and excursions available.

I had a great time here - its actually really clean! Love the bar too and the reception staff are all friendly! I recommend on doing the surf lessons with Jez from Noosa Learn to surf. Great location and lots of things to do in Noosa. I had a ball! Thanks.

Fun! Fun! Fun!
I went to koala's to stay 2 nights and i ended up staying over a week!
Great hostel, they even provided free pick up and drop off to the bus station.
I've heard good and bad comments about koala's, but i found it to be great.
Heaps of fun at the bar, even dressed up in garbage bags for one of their theme nights.
The staff a crazy (in a good way), they are so much fun and helpfull.
Thanks guys, i will be back!

Kickin, fun bar, but after you party you have to return to a fairly nasty room (IF you return to your room....). Basically, thought it was a fun place, but the facilities could all use a major re-do.

i paid for a double room to get a decent sleep but found that for the extra $25 i was sleeping in a dorm behind a sheet of paper with door. the 'room' was filthy and crawling with fleas. the attached dorm was dirty and the bathroom (shared by 8 of us) was rancid. there was no chance of sleeping what with the chomping of the bed bugs, the shrieks of the intoxicated/stoned dorm residents and the relentlessly bright outside light by my window. the free bus service has a very frequent timetable but doesnt actually follow this - hence i was stranded at the furthest beach with a boogie board and back pack to lug back to the pit, sorry hostel.

Only spent a night at this hostel in 2004 as we got out there asap!
The place was crawling with cockroaches and the toilet/shower was disgusting.
There were a lot of facilities and it was a great night out in the pub!
Also had to pay extra money for a blanket on your bed and had found it quite pricey already for low season!
But overall i wound not recommend this hostel!

We stayed in a double room for 2 nights. It was ok for 2 nights, but would have much rather stayed at the YHA which had a more central location and looked really nice. The rooms were old, and had a kind of stale smell. The double room is a locked room in a 6 bed dorm, and you share the bathroom with them and one other double room. We were lucky, as there was only one other person in the double room and the dorm was empty. Might be a bit of a nightmare sharing the bathroom with a 6 bed dorm though if it was full! Also you had to walk through the dorm to get to the bathroom. This place definately needs a major uplift. I have paid less for double rooms and have had a lot nicer!

if you are looking at getting work in this hostel don't really!! bad idea, bad management, bad pay, the staff house is shit, you get sacked for everything, the bar is overcrowded with 18 yr old locals wanting a cheap shag forget sleeping, if your female and on your own stay at the thomas street hostel much nicer safer and more central xxxx

I had the "pleasure" of staying here for two nights ($24 a night with VIP) and yes there is a good atmosphere if you get the right group of people (which I fortunately did) and the staff were really friendly and helpful but they were HUGELY let down by the fact that the place is disgusting! There were cockroaches in the room I was staying in and a rat in the kitchen on the first day and then some kind of creature (rat or possum possibly) that ate a hole through my shopping bag and ate my bread in the kitchen!!The ensuite bathroom is a joke, apart from the cockroaches it was pretty much mouldy, smelly and everything dripped!I stayed at Koala's because it was meant to be a well known place with a good repuation but this has put me off staying at any other koala place again.

Read the place name again - it's a resort, not a hostel. It does, however, advertise itself as a backpackers (which is presumably where all the funding has disappeared) and therefore must be judged as so.It's appallingly dirty, badly-maintained, contains an unfunny joke of a kitchen with no utensils and contains nothing but horned-up frat boys trying desperately to score. The 'doubles' are part of the dorms, seperated entirely by walls constructed from tracing paper. Don't get me wrong, I've stayed in some fairly 'rustic' hostels. But they've all substituted facilities with charm and friendly staff. These cheeky swindlers have tossed off a kids disco and ugly volleyball sandpit to palm off the stupid. This is a lazy, offensive and downright unpleasant place to be. It's doesn't even have the courtesy to be cheap and to cap it all, is nowhere near the beach.Unless you are a walking erection with a suntan for a soul, I suggest you don't set foot in this dump.

i stayed here last january and this was the worst hostel i saw whilst in oz. it was filthy - i mean fleas, bed bugs, the lot! the bed is not changed between guests and you have to pay extra if you want to put 'clean' sheets over the grubby mattress. this is meant to be a party hostel - don't be misled. the definition of 'party' here is smoking joints with the radio on at 2am. the people staying here were the dirtiest i met whilst travelling. the dorms are ensuite - so that's 1 toilet between 8 people. nice. please don't go here..........
