BUG Review
This place feels more like an apartment building than a hostel. Each unit is entirely self-contained, each with its own small kitchen and lounge room so there is no real atmosphere here unless you get along really well with the three or four other people in the same unit. The bathrooms are not particularly clean and the furnishings are dated. There are not many facilities besides laundry and free use of body boards. The doubles in the building next door are spotless and new. Management is friendly and knowledgeable.

Noosa is gorgeous and the sea is 5 minutes walk from where we were.

Unfortunatly we didnt get the Costa Bella apartments like the other guy who did a review - we got the Melaluka Units. Its right next to the Costa Bella but definatly not as nice. Our House thingy was right next to the reception and what we soon realised was that they had used half of our house for thier Reception - you could hear everything they said and did through the thin thin walls. The reception guy also kept popping in as they used one of the bedrooms as a filing room (that wasnt nice).

Apart from all that the place was ok, it had a kitchen with hobs/a toaster/kettle/microwave and fridge/sink etc. We had a living room with t.v and two sofas. Upstairs had a twin room, a double room and the filing room (used to be a bedroom) and a separate toilet and shower. It was carpeted upstairs which was from the 60's like most of the furniture in that place.

After we left my boyfriend told me that the many black splodges on the ceiling in our bedroom where actually spiders nests! I asked how he knew and he said he accidentally smashed one while trying to get a big fly out !

Anyway - Noosa is lovely but i would stay somewhere else if i went again (we heard on the grapevine that the Koala in Noosa is a flea pit)!

Hostel Manager's Right of Reply

Hello, My name is Peter Williams, I am the manager of Melaluka on the Beach. I am writing in regards to the "Reviewer: rachaelandy from Harlow, England." I see they were not happy with their stay here which I believe is because they booked a room in our older Melaluka Apartment and not the New Costa Bella Apartments, so as a result have embarked on a imaginary witch hunt. They complained about being near the office, I believe every backpackers has rooms near the office, we don't have a spare oval to put our office in the middle of. She said "The reception guy also kept popping in as they used one of the bedrooms as a filing room (that wasn’t nice)." We keep popping into the apartments to clean them and the other bedrooms on departures, she booked a room in an apartment sharing the apartment with 2 other people, at $26 each (dorm prices in Noosa). She booked the CHEAPEST POSSABLE ROOM in Noosa and in THE busiest week of the year. The options of our new Costa Bella Apartments were well and truly booked out then. We never use any of our bedrooms as "filing room," as she said, especially in late December. Our carpets and furniture are not from the 60s, the building isn't even that old. Her boyfriend told her there were black "splodges" of spiders nests on the ceiling, last I heard, spiders used webs and their egg sacs are white. Just to emphasize her state of mind she throws in an insult at Koala Backpackers where she didn't visit, how thorough. I find it sad someone is emotionally like this, and especially whilst on holidays to top it off, and also insulting for your webpage to print it. Our family has worked hard, consistantly, fairly and happily since 1978 with this business and have a huge success rate with our customers, that's why we are still here. Thanks for you time. Kind Regards Peter Williams :)

I Just stayed in their Costa Bella apartments with a mate. We had our own room with our own bathroom, shower. We have traveled right up the coast & it's the best place we've stayed in yet. Just read the Lets Go review & it says it all. There was a English couple in the other room & we all had a great time on the beach, swim in the pool & finish the day on the balcony with the great ocean views. Stay there and YOU WILL love it.

I had a two storey apartment with three other mates for $23 each. cheaper than dorms and heaps of room. we spent most of our time on the beach just over the road and came back to our own place and sat in our own yard and enjoyed a feew beers, cann't beat it.

Great place, love it. the only bug I saw was at the end of a bottle. Bed bug man check you give your clothes a good wash

We stayed in the Melaluka for one night only after planning to stay for 5. The whole place had clearly never been cleaned, there was dirt all over the floor, there were twigs in the bed and the pillows were old and yellow. The fridge in the kitched wasn't turned on when we got there so our food went off and it smelt really bad. When we checked out the next morning they led 2 other people staight into the room while we were still stood outside so that would explain why the room was so dirty. Wouldn't stay there again if you paid me.

I have travelled from Melbourne to Noosa so fare and Melaluka is the best place by fare. I stayed in a spacious apartment with three other people and had a great time.

There is a front and back yard so we could sit in the morning and afternoon sun. Also it was a short walk to a fantastic beach. The twins running the place were very friendly and helpful.I came for two nights and ended up staying ten nights. This is deffinantly a great place to stay

We stayed in the Costa Bella Apartments for $65 with our own bathroom. This is 4 star apartments with great ocean views. We shared the apartment with another couple who we have some wines on the balcony with looking at the ocean, perfect.

The twin brothers in the office were a great help, and a good laugh.

My girlfriend and I had a great relaxing stay and won't hesitate to recommend the Costa Bella & Melaluka hostel to anyone. (Melaluka are the older apartments next to the costa Bella apartments).

I stayed here with my friend and was impressed with the facilities. The appartments were a little old but it was great having a living room, sofa, TV, private kitchen etc etc Its right across from the beach but a little too far out of town. There is no free bus to transport you back and forth, and the local buses can be a little expensive. There is a local shop but food here is way too expensive.

Its perfect if you just want to chill on the beach all day long and then go back to the hostel with a good book as there is little else to do. Perfect if you have a car.

I stayed in this hotel on October 13th and I to was impressed by having my own flat. Only the tv didn't work. Under the seats I found lots of lost properties by previous visitors, the floor was a sand bank, it is very far out of town and most of all, I woke up at about 4 in the morning to find three bed bugs in my bed.

Noosa is a really nice place ot spend a few days with plenty of good accommodation but this must be the best. It's right on Sunshine Beach and consists of apartments like you'd get on a normal holiday but at backpaker prices. We were in an apartment in a double room with our own kitchen, lounge and all the facilities you need and it's $20 per person (either single or double room). If you fancy a splurge, they also have doubles at $60 with en suite bathrooms and a pool. It is clean, well run and has plenty of space. It is my favourite place so far in Australia, and I've stayed in quite a few. However, if you are travelling alone or don't have car, it may be no better than somewhere in town as it's not easy to meet people outside of your apartment and a bit out of town, but they do have a bus and a single room for $20 is hard to beat, especially as it is such a lovely place to stay. If you have a car and there are a few of you, you will have the best time. We also stayed at the Backpackers Resort which was fine but more expensive and not nearly as nice as this.
