BUG Review
This hostel is in a large modern building near the centre of Port Douglas. The air-conditioned dorms are very spacious and clean with comfortable beds and the bathrooms are also very clean. It may seem a bit sterile, but the outdoor common areas give it some character. There are large wooden tables and comfy couches and a large TV set up on both floors and there is a restaurant, bar, kitchen, pool table and internet room downstairs. The huge swimming pool is clean and surrounded by a large deck with a barbecue area. They offer free shuttle service and a tour desk.

Let me start by saying that this is a great hostel in awesome Port Douglas. The rooms are clean and well maintained and it's very reasonably priced for the area and is less than 5 minutes walk to 4 mile beach and the town. Stayed for four nights and had a great time. The reception staff were all very friendly and helpful in booking shuttle buses etc. The only issue I had with the hostel was the fact that when we came to check out, the books said that one of the group owed them for a night, which was completely wrong. The owner then got quite shirty with us even after admitting that mistakes are often made by his staff and he had to sack a couple of receptinists the previous day. He then made a point of very loudly claiming that we were lucky to be given the benefit of the doubt, and kept walking past muttering "some people!!". It may have just been an isolated incident, and as I say the rest of the stay was brilliant and I would highly recommend this hostel!!

Parrotfish lodge is very clean and new with huge rooms, ultra-comfy beds, good linen (towels that actually dry you off!), good showers and everything working. Let down is the kitchen which is very small and closed at 1030 after which you can't even get a drink of water. (they also tell you not to drink the water here!). Also there's a bizarre system of loaning out cutlery and crockery with a deposit on it; this is a nuisance as you have to keep it in your room.

friendly and helpful staff, but no one around to shut up rowdy guests who can scream until 2am. Also expensive. Probably the best bet in Port Douglas but not the best hostel; glad we moved on to On the Wallaby in Yungaburra.

We stayed for four nights in a 6-bed dorm here. The rooms were large and comfortable, with lockers available in rooms. A bright and cheerful decor helps you really feel at home. Parrotfish is in a good location, with good food, reasonably priced, in the restaurant downstairs. The owners and staff are the friendliest and the best we encountered anywhere, and gave us great advice on tours to book. By far the best hostel I've stayed at in Oz or anywhere!

I've travelled throughout the UK, Europe, South Africa & Australia and i can quiet easily & confidently say this is by far the coolest, cleanest (big bonus), most comfortable (the beds are a dream) and friendliest backpackers I've had the privellege of staying at. From the moment you walk in you enter the relaxed world of the ParrotFish. The pool stays cool all day, the staff will help you with any tour AND book it and the music is always varied and never too low or too loud (yes, you can still chat to the fellow relaxees). You actually forget that there's a tv there (but still available for those who need a tv fix). Happy hours is always a bonus at the bar with cheap cheap jugs of beer (nice after a day at the reef) and the food is so well priced but worthy of the more 'upperclass' restaurants, and I've tried some of those too.....my compliments to the chefs. What more can I say than get your a*#e there and enjoy it if you're heading north. Remember far north Queensland doesn't stop at Cairns.
