BUG Review
This hostel has very clean dorm rooms and cabins set in gardens north of the city centre. The kitchen and common room are well maintained and the hostel also has internet access, laundry and guests have free use of bikes. They are in the process of building a new swimming pool. Due to the location, it doesn't have a very good atmosphere although staff are helpful and friendly.

I stayed for 2nights. Although staff are helpful, it's a bit messy. Moreover, the bath room was so depressing. I can't stand more than 2 nights. I believe it will be a good hostel if the staff work carefully.

One of the worst hostels I stayed in while in Oz. I was NOT impressed especially after paying $35 for a YHA membership. There were 4 frogs in the showers and spider webs all over the place, I was afraid to be spending the night there.

this was a vey poor and souless place, like most yha places have very basic facilities and the dorms were substandard, cramped and dirty. i would choose another backpackers if you end up in rockhampton,

Grim beyond belief, stayed in a very noisy & cramped 10 person dorm - do not recc it if a good nights sleep is reqiured. Kitchen facilities basic & lounge very depressing. Stay here only to leave for gorg Great Keppel Island first thing the next morning!

Helpful reception staff, good base for Great Keppel, June 29, 2002

This hostel is conveniently a 5 minute walk from the McCafferty's Coach Terminal. It cost $29.50 each (non-member fee) to stay in one of their comfortable ensuite doubles, which are actually self-contained cabins that used to be part of the Sydney Olympic athlete's village. The YHA is a 15 minutes walk from downtown, but I didn't find too much to do in downtown so the distance didn't matter too much.

The hostel is extremely convenient for those wishing to explore Great Keppel island, because the reception staff organizes bus and ferry transfers as well as accommodation.
