BUG Review
Aquarius is a very well maintained hostel with a pool and spa, an outside tropical themed bar, and comfortable TV lounge. The dorms are modern and clean with new bunks and nice carpet and the bathrooms are also very clean. They offer free barbeques and courtesy pick up and shuttle service. Southport is a bit farther away from the action, so it is quieter here, but they take part in the big hostel parties in town where guests get free drinks, food, and entry into nightclubs.

Stayed at Aquarius Gold Coast didn't want to leave. Spent my days lazing around the pool with a cold drink in one hand and a good book in the other.

At night joined Aquarius party team and spent time at Jacks Spot (hostel bar) then was driven to the clubs by the hostel staff and showed where to go and given a free drink and entry by the hostel.

My bed was made when we arrived it was like being at home and even smelt like home.

Cooked our meals in the kitchen and everything you could imagine is in the kitchen when they say fully equipped they are correct.

Well done hopefully see you next year.

Very clean hostel, uncomfortable beds, small rooms, tiny kitchen and boring., July 25, 2007

This is a good hostel if you want to be in Southport, if you are working for instance. But not if you want to be in the middle of things. You have to get a bus into Surfers, which can be a wait. The hostel is very clean and some of the staff are lovely (Tom, Dave). The atmosphere though is very boring. There is nothing really to do and it is a small hostel, so people can be quite clique. Most of the time I was there the TV was always on. Also there is not really anywhere to sit and eat your food. There is a small table that will fit 4 people, or you can sit outside in the bar area, not nice if you don't like fag smoke. You can't eat in the lounge though, as the numerous signs tell you. You may also end up eating in the dark if the TV is on and they want the lights of. The beds are uncomfortable, although they give you plenty of blankets. The hostel is also on a main road, so there is a fair bit of traffic noise, even at night. One good thing is that they have balconies, lovely to sit in the sun and read your book. Too noisy to chat on the phone though.

Aquarius was possibly the nicest hostel we have stayed in whilst travelling in Australia. A large part of this was the fact that the hostel was so clean with no cockroaches or ants crawling round the kitchen. The staff are particularly friendly and helpful and create a good atomosphere. The hostels other facilities are a large pool and massive screen tv with a proper surround sound set up. The bar can have a good atmosphere, with $1 pool, and relatively cheap drinks before the backpackers big night out.

I can't finish the review without mentioning the lovely hostel owner jo who was very friendly and a big help.

I would recommend this hostel as the place to stay on the gold coast. Although its not in the centre of Surfers Paradise the hostel has a regular minibus to surfers and the local bus runs all night.

the hostel is very clean and faclitlities are ok and I didnt mind the fact it was out of town, but the Manager is very very rude. There is no excuse. I was really disapointed with my stay here and I ended up checking out within a day. I still had a good time in surfers tho (in another hostel). I wish I had read these reviews before I checked in.

This hostel is increadibly clean, the double rooms are spacious, bathrooms are ok, the kitchen is well equiped and there are over 200 dvd's that you can rent with no cost/deposit. The reason we have given this 4 stars and not 5 is because the live in staff and permanent residents take over the communal areas too much.
