BUG Review
This hostel has average dorms and a good range of facilities including a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, a small gym and a bar. Guests also offer free use of bikes and body boards. The place has a pretty good atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. The only downside is the lack of security.

Fun atmosphere, good facilities for a hostel.

I was very unhappy with the cleanliness of this hostel. The room smelled of mold and b.o. The fan had thick dirt and dust, there was black mold on the walls. The dirt on the fan was so blatant, it was insulting. It did seem after talking with staff that it was expected of guests to accept some level of uncleanliness because this was "backpacker accomodation". I've stayed in many hostels, and have never stayed in such a dirty place. I don't think cleanliness is something that needs to be sacrificed just because a place is a "backpacker" accomodation.

I'd planned my trip to SP at a really bad time, namely Schoolies Week, so my dislike of the town stems more from that than anything else. Mercifully, the hostel seemed to have an unofficial policy to not accept Schoolies as residents. In general the hostel was very good, with my only quibble being it's not close to the town centre (though shuttle buses run regularly). The dorm was delightfully cool, even though there was no aircon and outside it was hot, and the other residents were friendly almost without exception. I would stay here again, but it's worth giving the whole town a miss during Schoolies Week (unless you're a Schoolie).

On the bus to Surfer's we saw this hostel and were immediatly attracted to the facilities: it boasted, a tennis court, free laundry, bar, pool, games room, gym and all at a reasonable rate....... too good to be true i hear you ask.... well no it wasn't.
What started as a three day stay extended to a 5 month stay and the best period in me ickle life.
This hostel is family run but with a sense of fun and thats why i say that it has something for everyone.
Everynight of the week there are events organised if you want fun they'll show you just that, this events get escorted into the centre of surfers at 10 so if you want a good nights sleep you'll get that too!!!
They usually employ good staff as opposed to one's that look good and have the ego's of Peter Stringfellow, there fore you are assured that they are friendly and helpful. And not out for their own interests if you know what i mean
They take deposits on certain items such as towels and cultlery which i know from travelling some people find annoying but i found that this ensured the quality was always of a high standard and if anyone who is travelling you'll know that sometimes the lure of a free fork is just too much for a traveler with no money.
The drinks in the bar are so cheap be cause i felt it was there as a service as opposed to trying to make more profit out of struggling nomads.
All in all a great hostel with great facilities. Extremely clean and well maintained provided you let them know that someting is wrong. Things can go unnoticed if they go unreported!!!
Now this hostel is away from the town but don't let that put you off it makes up for it in so many other ways, the shuttle buses are always on time and reliable. It'll be worth it

i was forced to stay here during last october, november because EVERYWHERE else was booked out...mainly because it was "schoolies" but still, anyway this plce looks like some kind of prison yard with a volleyball court in the middle, with a grotty bbq an asbestos roof and barok here are the CONS1. no decent shops anywhere near this place so if u want to buy anything you hav to go into town and drag it back2. very unfriendly, staff have some kind of bleak depressed attitude about them that makes you wish you didnt have to stay in such a place.3. dorm rooms are tiny with 6 people staying in them and are sort of expensive for what they are. (however the apartment rooms are much betterfew bucks more and you get a nice huge room with kitchen laundry lounge and bla bla!!4. tightass's, EVERYTHING and i mean EVERYTHING you do at this place will make u pay a deposit for....its like your a bunch of 14 year olds. Want a ball to play with? deposit want cutlery...deposit and to use there shitty excuse for a gym...deposit....want to take out a bike for the day $150 DEPOSIT! bedsheets deposit and so on.5.internet is expensive, considering at most backpackers it is free these days.6.pool almost turned my hair white from having so much chlorine in it.7.pool table missing 3 balls and no refund8.when staying in a dorm room they have intercoms in every room!! so they announce stuff like volley ball comps and stuff like that....but what we found out is the owners have pretty much bugged the place! they can actualy hear everything you say in these rooms because they are always left on!....and im not paranoid or on drugs, i shit you not, they ask you questions and you talk into it without touching a button on it.9. they have these crappy 1970's p.a speakers outside that echo across the prison yard the same cd day in day out if staying there (for 10 days like me) then it drives you made...it kind of explains the staffs attitude though.ok i cant think of anything else bad about it at the moment but im sure i have left stuff out10. pub crawl was poorly set out with false information given and although you get ONE free drink at each club they keep you in there for along time so you will spend alot more.11. no t.v's no fridges no air con just 6 beds in a space for a queen sized bed....wait till u see it hehe its funnyok PRO'S:1. free shuttle bus everyhour.....well if they didnt you would honestly be doomed2.cleaned everyday by some hot chick in short pants3.very close communal setting, if you dont like to get social then dont stay at this place....you loser4.shake the over priced vending machine to score free food!ok well i stayed here for like i said before about 10 days....however after these ten day i met a group of british backpackers and we decided to move across the road to a small hotel for cheaper, the room was twice the size with air con, fridge,t.v and no school camp rules. from the money we ended up saving we hired a convertible 4WD for 3 days and hit the theme parksi couldnt wait to get out of the backpackers. At least alls we had to do is walk across the rd.i hope you find this hopefull and decide not to go to this urban prison.

I've stayed in 2 hostels in Surfers now and I've yet to find a great one. This was acceptable, but I won't be going back.Where other buses were waiting at the bus station, I had to call this courtesy bus to turn up, but I found it ran every hour which was alright. At one stage I didn't want to wait and walked 15 mins up the beach to town which was more pleasant. It was right in between Surfers and Broadbeach shops and both took a while to walk to.The whole place was pretty small, and the room was cramped and looked like it was a 2-person motel room turned into a 6-person one, but it was clean and it had its own little bathroom which was passable. The drinks at the bar weren't too expensive, but while the pub crawl bus was supposed to turn up at 9pm, it came one and a half hours later, possibly a ploy to get us to drink and pay more at the hostel bar. For $15 the bus took us to 2 pubs instead of the advertised 3 pubs with a free drink at each but the rest of the drinks were overpriced and the first pub (Melba's) was pretty dodgy and boring. So my overall experience was alright, but could've been better and I'll be more prepared next time.

I was trying to decide between this and another hostel and had sent an email with a couple questions. I finally got a response maybe a week later but my questions weren't answered!! I sent another email and never got a response back. That's a bad sign of the staff friendliness if they can't even respond to general queries...they obviously don't take pride in how they treat their potential visitors.....so in the end they made my decision very easy!!!

This hostel was absolutly terrible. The staff is very unfriendly if you have some problems! We had to go to the busstation at 7.00AM and we asked, if they can drop us off at this time. And they called us a taxi! I was very upset! (In other hostel they will drive you at 6.00 AM to the busstation) The other thing, my room stank! I dont know what it was, but it was terrible! And the kitchen is not "fully equipment", how they write!I will never go back to this Hostel!

This hostel would be nice who travel alone or like meeting ppl, since they organize many things such as a volley competition. I stayed 5 nights there, and found out its location is too far for me, even though they offer shuttle bus almost every one hour until 7PM. The room is relatively clean, although the broken shower made me upset a bit.If you are with nice roommates, you will have a great time like me!
