BUG Review
This hostel has the ambience of an old motel. Dorms are just bare cement block boxes with bunk beds and a fridge; the kitchen is massive, but again it is empty feeling. Other facilities include the usual laundry, a barbecue and a big games/TV room with pool tables, couches and air hockey, but it doesn't seem to get much use. The reception area has a shop and internet access ($5 per hour) and heaps of information on tours. Location is inconvenient, but they offer shuttle buses throughout the day.
Price
Dorm bed $22 ($20 HI/YHA, VIP)
Single room $40 ($38 HI/YHA, VIP)
Double room $48 ($44 HI/YHA, VIP)
Twin room $50 ($46 HI/YHA, VIP)
Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

When we arrived off the bus in townsville we noticed a leaflet advertising adventurers resort, it sounded great so we called them and they gave us a great deal of 7 nights for the price of 4 First impressions was the room was ok, we had our own fridge which is very handy, there was also a safe in every room but the one we got had been broken into The swimming pool looked good but kitchen facilities were poor as it seemed people staying there had taken most of the cutlery and plates. On our first night people were shouting, swearing and fighting with each other. This so called hostel seems to be filled with locals, and is hoaching with bed bugs/fleas rather than backpackers. By the third night we couldnt take anymore and moved to another hostel, so much for the great deal we thought we were getting. This is one of the worst hostels we have stayed in, very unfriendly, not the cleanest and I didnt feel safe staying there, dont go there if you want to have a good time!

I have to agree with every last word of what Robin wrote, simply due to the fact that I met Robin along with numerous other people while staying in Townsville last year & had the absolute time of my life!Steve & Carly have done everything to make Adventurers the best hostel they can, and I don't think that they've forgotten anything!Adventurers was the first hostel I'd stayed at in Australia where I actually got to meet Aussies! If anyone reckons Adventurers lacks atmosphere, it's due to the fact that they didn't leave their room! It's the only place where you get up in the morning & cruise up to the pool, to have breakfast waiting for you (I'm talking bacon, eggs, spuds, toast, tomatos, the works - all Aussie barbie style) & it's not put on by the owners, it's put on by the fantastic people met there! And we can't forget all the blokes going fishing & coming back with enought fish to feed an army! Or the cricket tournaments & piss ups at the metropole! The minute I arrived I felt at home. I was meant to stay in Townsville for a week & stayed for 2 1/2 months!I know for a fact that it is one of cleanest hostels I've ever stayed in & I know, because I did the cleaning & I'll tell you what, as far as the owners are concerned, there are no short cuts, it gets done right EVERYDAY!!!Like I said before, not only did I meet fantastic Aussies, but also met a heaps of fantastic backpackers as well! Adventurers is tops! If you don't enjoy yourself there - you'll never enjoy yourself anywhere!!Quick hi to Gemma, Paulie, Paul Small, Canadian Paulie, Kaitlin, Mark, Mick, Bob, Kelly, Andy, Shell, Jane, Leighroy, Irish Jerry, Paddy, Dana, Pete, Pierre, James, Glen, Nicky, Hal - just some of the wonderful people I met at Adventurers! And a big hi to my amazing boyfriend Jamie (aka Tassie), met him there too!!

We stayed here for 1 week and couldn't wait to get out! Our room was clean and tidy but painted grey and the whole area where the rooms are looks like a prison courtyard. The kitchen is very big but very badly equipped; we struggled to find enough cooking and eating utensils to the extent that we bought our own cutlery - and the hostel had hardly any people staying. There are a few people who actually live there including 1 guy who's been there for 5 years. Most of the guests aren't very friendly and because of the size of the place it is difficult for people to interract properly. The job notice board is pants and the office closed 1 hour early every day bar 1, and there is an announcement at 9.30am every morning reminding those who are checking out that check out time is 10am. On the up side, it is about a 5 min walk from the transit centre and you get a free pickup and (I presume) drop-off, you get a free drink voucher on check in and if you need to earn some cash, there is plenty of work going around in the hostel. The staff and owners were nice enough, but unfortunately the bad stay here brought a downer on our time in Townsville (untill we changed hostels).

Ok, first of all, BUG, Adventurers is at 79 Palmer Street, not 75. I spent 3 months living and working at Adventurers and can tell you for sure that it was by far and away THE CLEANEST and NICEST (facilities wise) of ANY hostel I stayed at in Australia, and I stayed in at least 30 of 'em. It was also the best value, $170/week for a double room. No, that's not per person! There are some "lifers" at Adventurers but you know what? If you'd have taken your head out of your butt and actually said Hi to them you'd be amazed at how quickly you'd be welcomed. You'd probably get a VB or a XXXX handed to you too, they're like that there. It's a friendly caring place where they'd notice if you didn't show up one morning, where "trouble" is dealt with swiftly, and where you can actually get a good night's sleep if you choose to forgo an evening of partying. I never ever felt threatened while at the hostel. I found the best parties and the best friendships of my trip at Adventurers. I'd recommend it to anyone. You should stay there, if only to take advantage of the SOAP in the bathrooms. Who knows, you just might like the place and end up living in tropical paradise (Townsville) for months like I did!

I just spent a wonderful time in Townsville and it was mostly because of the people and staff at the hostel. The new management go out of their way to help you out and make you feel at home. I found everyone there friendly and helpful. There is a great pool, huge kitchen and the rooms and bathroom were very clean.

The rooms were very basic and the people - well to be honest I didn't realise there was anyone else there. Noone spoke or even looked at me, it was very difficult to make any conversation. There is a large kitchen and tv room but quite far from anywhere really, not at all social. Bad atmosphere and I felt very unsafe there. A little walk from the town where there are much better places to stay. I stayed one night, I really did not like it.

I just stayed here for a few nights .. the rooms are vaguely like prison cells .. very bare .. but .. they are well adequate and are air conditioned and have a fridge so the fact that the metal bed and cabinets make it feel a lil like past reviewer said, it was a lot cooler than many places i have stayed .. the pool was good .. bbq area too if you want too .. kitchen was absolutely massive and they now provide free tea and coffee (great first thing in the morning!) .. the staff in reception were very friendly (well except one of them) and they have internet here also .. the other residents hmmmmmm well i can only say they are the most unfriendliest bunch i have ever met .. to even get to look anyone in the face was hard work .. to get a hi out of someone was a miracle .. lots of people seem to 'live' here so all in all the atmosphere is well flat on the floor .. also its a lil walk from town .. not far but there are more central places

Top location, the hostel has and is going through an up grade, Clean and bright. Stayed 4 nights, they had good tourist packages available. With 300 beds the place looks empty with a 100, but it has real character for the area and not artificial. It is worth the effort as it is very convenient and comfortable. The new managements strategies take time, you make the time you won't be disappointed.
