Stayed for about a week & received professional and friendly service from the staff. The place was nice & clean and was very secure. Great location and has all the basic facilities you need. No hassles from the staff and I was very appreciative of their friendly and helpful attitude!!

I stayed here and thought that it was a nice place at first. When i checked in i met the owner or manager, not sure which one. He was all smiles and very nice with his wife near. Later on that night when she was not around ***EDITED TO COMPLY WITH BUG'S REVIEW GUIDELINES***. I kind of shrugged it off but he kept it up and i didnt like it. ***EDITED TO COMPLY WITH BUG'S REVIEW GUIDELINES*** and generally he made me feel really uncomfortable.

While i dont think he was actually going to do anything to me, i was travellling by myself and he creeped me out so i checked out after 2 days of this treatment. There was a also 2 other guys there who seemed to be local people and they were drunk each day i saw them and very wierd. The hostel was okay but the owner there is nice when his wife is around but very creepy ***EDITED TO COMPLY WITH BUG'S REVIEW GUIDELINES*** when she is not. Girls beware.

Kelly.

After falling for the whole Globetrotter thing and being saved by reef lodge i realised it is the place to stay while in Townsville. The hostel had everything you could ask for. Clean, more than one tv area, extremely nice and helpfull managers, 2 secs away from the bars, the best equiped hostel kitchen i have ever came across.

I was meant to be just passing through Townsville but after staying here for one night i changed my mind. I stayed in townsville for a few months and worked. The hostel caters very well for working backpackers.

The manager keeps on top of noice after 10.30 which is great if you wanna sleep, if you do want to go party the hostel guests get discounts at a bar round the corner.

So if going to Townsville make sure you stay here and not fall for globetrotter 'to good to be true' offer.

This was a good hostel.

It was clean and regularly maintained.

There is a notice in the kitchen saying if you don't clean up you will lose your deposit and that you are watched by cameras to ensure this. I like that.

The staff stay close at night so any problems get sorted out. For example there were a bunch of girls who let some boys come in for the night any they made a lot of noise. The next day the girls were told to leave immediately by a rather furious hostel manager. Good on him!

I did get bitten by bed bugs. I told the cleaning lady and she said she would check it out. I assume they were from the neighbouring globetrotters hostel.

The hostel is also in a an excellent location between the town centre and the strand.

This hostel was like a breath of fresh air. We had just stayed at a really horrible place called Globetrotters and these guys at the lodge made us really feel at home. The kitchen is great and all the facilities are very clean. I would recommend this place to everyone.

After a really bad night at GLOBETROTTRS we checked in here at Reef. I went from wanting to leave Townsville to booking in for 2 weeks! The couple who run this hostel are so nice, they have time to chat to you and make you feel welcome. The rooms have air-con, fans, TV, fridge, storage space and are clean. The cleaners do a great job! We have the Strand 5 minutes away and the night life on our door step (This does'nt mean it's noisey either!) . There are CCTV cameras all over so it's very safe and no worries. If you come to Townsville and want value for you accomodation without staying in a dump, stay here.

We had an awful start to our stay in Townsville at GLOBE TROTTERS and were ready to leave when we stumbled across the REEF LODGE. We were made to feel so welcome with a friendly check in and were really impressed with the twin room! It has everything a backpacker could want for a comfortable stay, TV, aircon, fridge, kettle, toaster and cupboards. The kitchen is also fully equiped and open 24 hours. The beach and shops are only a short walk away, as is the Magnetic Island ferry. We loved it here!!

I stayed at this hostel during August and found it to be a very clean, friendly hostel. Toilets, showers and kitchen facilities were first class. They don't allow drunks or pigs (people who don't clean up their mess)eg dishes and pots and pans. This suits me. The door to the street is closed after 7.30pm so is safe and you are given your own key for access after this time.

Simone (manageress/owner) was very helpful/friendly and I found people staying at the hostel to be friendly. The hostel is roughly eight minutes walk to the shopping mall or ferry terminal (to Magnetic Island)/Greyhound or to the Strand (beachfront). Perfectly situated. There tends to be noise from the pub next door at the weekend but I use earplugs anyway so it wasn't a big deal to me. I would definitely stay here again

this hostel is in a good location near the strand. the rooms were very clean with own fridge, kettle and. toaster. over all this hostel has no atmosphere. it is very unfriendly. nobody talks to one another. if you happen to get a room at the front of the hostel, dont expect to get to sleep untill about 3 am as the pubs are very loud. you will then be rudly woken up at about 7 am with people cleaning being very unconsiderate to others. if you only need about 4 hours sleep a night then this hostel will be ok, otherwise i dont advise that you waste your money.

Hostel Manager's Right of Reply

Yes we do have some noise issues, as we are in the middle of the city and right next to the night club strip. It would seem strange Connie has said there is no atmosphere and people are unfriendly here as this is not the feedback I generally get. Lastly my cleaners don't get to work until 9.30 a.m. and I don't open the office till 7.30 a.m. so the unconsiderate people may very well be your fellow travellers. Not my staff!!

A small hostel, nice atmosphere, Internet and laundry facilities. There is not much to tell, but worth going there if you want to stay in Townsville
