BUG Review
This brilliant hostel in the heart of the historic village of Yungaburra is wonderfully maintained, with new beds and clean bathrooms with great showers. The kitchen is small but fully equipped and very clean and there is a nice wooden dining table and outside common area where travellers get together every night. The hostel is beautifully maintained and homely and the staff are friendly and welcoming. They organise tours and excursions in the Tablelands region and offer some really great deals. It is definitely worth a few nights stay.

Of the 50 or so hostels I've stayed in in Australia, this is in the top 3. It's clean and well-maintained with quirky touches such as platypus memorabilia all over the place, but what sets it apart is the enthusiastic and helpful staff (Matt and Dennis take a bow) and the range of activities on offer. I went night-canoeing ($25) on Lake Tinaroo with Matt and a couple of other guests, which was a magical experience (though we didn't spot too much wildlife). The nightly barbecue ($8) provided a perfect opportunity to meet other residents of the hostel. It helps that the Atherton Tablelands in which Yungaburra sits are extremely photogenic, and indeed Yungaburra itself is crawling with platypus, but even without that this would be a brilliant hostel. I would definitely stay here again. My one quibble was that the bottom bunks were rather low, leading to the occasional inadvertent head-butt of the upper bunk.

glorious old house in peaceful Yungaburra (population 'not very many'.) Good kitchen, free tea and coffee and cheap 'half board' arrangement. Cosy lounge with fire (bring a jumper in winter, it's cold on the Atherton), free platypus spotting and lots of other good stuff. You need a car though.

be aware it is next to the fire station; if you hear a siren that is a 'shout'. Not exactly very busy though!

definitely recommended.

This place is great - small, very homely and cosy. The rooms are spotless and comfy and the communal area is too. Hammocks in the garden are a great feature too. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. Would recommend doing their 3 day/ 2 night trip - it is great value and so much fun.

On the Wallaby is a really nice, clean, friendly hostel. Its in the Tablelands and so a lot cooler than cairns. Platypus spotting is just down the road from the hostel and you can see them at sunrise and sunset. There is lots to see in the area and the hostel run tours and night canoeing(great to see wildlife). If you are not on a tour you really need to hire a car as there is no public transport to yungaburra. There is also a BBQ in the hostel every night but there is a supermaket and places to eat nearby also. We had a great time here and for anyone who wants to see some wildlife and waterfalls I would reccommend a stay here
