Pros: Free Apple pie and ice cream, rice and breakfast, plus they are relaxed about things like check out
Cons: Kitchen is small with one cooker and one sink.

Adelaide tends to be a stop over place on the way to other things, I found work here and ended up staying for 3 months, admittedly the video and DVD collection didn't quite stretch that far, but the libraries have some to borrow. The hostel is clean, toilets and showers and enough so I never had to wait, the rooms are clean, you can change bed linen whenever you want and there is usually space in the fridge and freezer, added to which its cheap and there is apple pie in the evening and breakfast in the morning, both good ways to meet people there.

Greg's a good laugh, Chris is full of surprises (if you can understand him) and Peter is funny although he'll probably go on for a while and start moaning about something, the Japanese love him.

I was actually intending to give this hostel a full 5 stars but consider the fact that the walls of the hostel room were soooo thin (made of wood) that I could actually hear what the neighbours were talking, I have to minus 1 star. (Me and my darling didn't even dare to talk too loud in our room!!!) But on the upside, the bed was new, the linen & blankets were clean, the toilets were spacious and seemed like they had the hostel newly renovated (we were there at May '03). Basically I enjoyed Adelaide very very much and this hostel helped to uphold the good impression I have of the city. By the way the lady at the counter was extremely sweet and helpful, she offered advice on where we could visit in Adelaide. Anyway, Adelaide is lovely, and I certainly miss it dearly, it's a city close to my heart. Ahhh...

I stayed in this hostel on and off for a couple of months. That says it all really... Malcolm, Deb, Peter & Chris (The Staff) were funny, helpful and totally professional, as was Peter F. (The owner). They knew not only Adelaide, but were well travelled across Australia and knew, not only the best places to go, but the best places to stay, And booked it all for you. Now thats service (and comes with a free smile too).

If I ever go back to South Australia. Adelaide Backpackers Inn is the place I AM GOING to stay!

The prices wern't bad, nor was Peter's famous FREE Apple Pie (every night) More importantly... It's totally BUG FREE.

I would recommend this hostel as a must when visiting Adelaide.

This hostel is quite old and very shabby. Could do with a few renovations! Run by a couple of old blokes who seem quite friendly but it isn't a very happening place!

I thought it was very overpriced for what it was. Normally a place like this would be one of the cheapest in town, but it was one of the most expensive!

Seemed to be very popular with the Japanese.

Don't let the shabby exterior fool you - this really is a great place to stay. The owners are so kind and helpful and groovy Peter will pick you up from the airport for free and make you hot apple pie and custard every night. I stayed in the annex across the street and although my room (two bunks) had no windows, I had it all to myself so I was happy. The front desk is very knowledgable about the different tours to do and the hostel's within walking distance of pretty much everything. Oh yeah, there's free rice and spices too.

A short walk away from the free city circle bus station, this hostel has a very warm atmosphere. The main building is not as clean and neat but we stayed in the annex and really had a good time. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, including suggesting good trips in and around Adelaide and booking them for us. Bus and airport pick ups and drops are definately a big help. And the free apple pie with ice cream and custard was so good-thank you Peter(I think I put on some weight staying there for the few days). The kitchens, bathrooms and showers are neat and clean and very well maintained(in the annex building). As well as the rooms and the linen.
