BUG Review
Annie’s Place is a charming 140-year-old building with tall ceilings and lots of character. The entrance is impressive with warm colours and a huge chandelier in the hallway gives the hostel a bit of charisma. There are plenty of other kitschy odds and sods around the hostel such as the sculpture in the courtyard and even a porn room (a double room room with the walls tastefully covered in nude photos). The eclectic décor works surprisingly well making Annie’s Place stand apart from other more sterile hostels. It has the usual facilities such as a good kitchen, laundry and barbecue area but there is no TV lounge as there are televisions in all the rooms instead, which detracts from the otherwise excellent atmosphere.
Price Dorm bed $23-25 ($22-24 HI/YHA, VIP) Double/twin room $65-75
Prices include breakfast and an evening meal Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
was here 12-months ago: pretty good. 2 weeks ago: many improvements. well done folks!, July 6, 2008

it's claimed that the owner prefers not to have aussies staying here. but from my experience, if you are genuine and sincere in your approach, you should not have any issues.

Loved my stay at this hostel met some great people and had a good time. The building has a real sense of character and is certainly value for money with free breakfast and free internet (it is a bit slow but you cant compain it is free ) The staff can book your onward travels and have good local advice. The lack of a warm indoor common area is a bit of a draw back althought the rooms have plenty of space so you can sit in there a bit and get to meet your room mates and theres also tvs in the rooms.Definately reccomend

I stayed here for several nights after coming round the Great Ocean Road. The staff were extremely helpful, and I booked a couple of tours through them. The other residents were friendly too - I liked the fact that the courtyard had no TV, which tended to promote conversation.I didn't like the ensuite bathrooms - not only does this tend to result in morning traffic jams, but the light/noise from the bathroom impacts the other people in the dorm. The (admittedly free) Internet appeared to be steam-powered. There are TVs in each dorm, which I wasn't a fan of.Overall, I'd consider staying here again, but I preferred the Blue Galah (which is also closer to the city centre).
Pros:
The beds, the baths, the social courtyard
Cons:
Adelaides weather

A nice place to stay in an old building full of atmosphere. It's ran by this ace woman called Flick. She was great and everynight we had dinner and sat around and chewed the fat in the courtyard. Stay here if you visit Adelaide.
Pros:
Amazing staff and great atmosphere
Cons:
The only real common area is outside

The staff really make this place, nothing is too much trouble. This creates a great atmosphere, and the rooms are clean and tidy, each with their own tv's. The smaller dorms (6 beds) at the back of the courtyard also have their own bathrooms. The only real downside is that the only communual area is outside, but it is partially covered and is great in the summer! It's got a good kitchen too.Oh and there seems to be a mistake in BUG's review, the $5 meals are at the Annies Place in Alice Springs, not here.
