BUG Review
Sunny’s is a small 52-bed hostel with a lively atmosphere and the usual facilities. The kitchen is badly maintained and the building feels shabby, but the cleanliness is kept at an acceptable level and the laid-back vibe is a bonus. The TV lounge is OK and there’s a sunny barbecue area at the front of the hostel. The manager is helpful and friendly.

I had a great time in this funky little hostel. The owner, John, and his staff really seemed to care about me and the other guests, they went out of their way to make sure that I knew what was happening in Adelaide and gave advice about things to do and places to see. For this reason alone, I could recommend this hostel. I felt safe (important for a girl travelling alone) and the free pancake breakfast every day was yummy.

I passed through Adelaide, on my way back to Sydney at the end of a 4-month stretch of nationwide sightseeing. It was winter, and I had more or less run out of money.

I had heard a lot of middling things about Adelaide, and only ever intended staying for a couple of day's rest. However, the job I was returning to in Sydney was pushed back a week, and without money, I found myself stranded.

I chose Sunny's quite simply because it was next to the station, but ultimately it was a lucky stroke. The hostel is fairly average in its facilities - but then most backpacker hostels are. It does, however, have a lovely, friendly atmosphere. It's quite small, with a bright, airy feel. In the dead of winter, with no money, it proved a home from home. The staff are exceptionally friendly and hospitable, and gave me a job cleaning in the morning in exchange for my stay.

In spite of it being off-peak season, and very quiet, I found Adelaide to be a really handsome, relaxed city with lots of parks and riverside walks.

I didn't intend staying in the city, but I'm very glad I did. I have excellent memories of the laid-back week I spent there, and Sunny's, which matched the relaxed atmosphere all round. I would definitely recommend both the city and this hostel for any backpacker wishing to take a bit of time out from hectic traveling.
