I arrived about a week after this place opened as a hostel in early Oct 1999, with the intent of working and saving money.
The room I shared had not been renovated and was still as it was when the place was a motel. Each day new people arrived as only 4 others were staying when I arrived.
Everybody seemed to get on really well I fealt at home, we had plenty of work plenty of money and plenty of parties. We did have some strange characters staying with us but I will never forget my time here (3 months).
The facilities here were great, swimming pool to dive into after a hard day in the fields, and great views over the river especially watching the sun go down and rise because we started work early every day.
Highly recommended place to visit. I don't know if they did do it but the house on the hill has a jacuzzi you can use but the water is a funny colour.

I have mixed views on this hostel. I, as does everybody else there, came for work. This is really the only reason to stay here, for which it serves its purpose. Warwick, the owner, is very good at finding work for those staying - if you're not sure of the work situation, best call ahead to see if much is available. The hostel is not bad, it has a kitchen, bar, bathrooms are en suite, but it could be better. Most of the rooms didn't have air-con, and nights there in summer were very uncomfortable. The place never seemed to get cleaned either. The worst part of the experience for me though was the kind of people staying there. There were some wonderful Japanese and Korean people, but a lot of the English at the time I was there seemed to be morons. One got drunk and trashed a room one night, and as far as I can see no action was taken against him. Also, the rooms didn't have locks and a thief was on the loose taking valuables. Hopefully though it was just a case of being in the place at the wrong time.

Nomads on Murray is a great hostel for all people who enjoy a nice Riverview with relaxed evenings and nights on the terrace. I arrived there in Australias hottest time of the year, in january, and i must say it was really hot there. Its in the in the desert and without the Murray nothing would be there, i guess. I stayed there for 98 days, and in this time i met a lot of nice people. I worked there picking grapes and i earned quite a bit money there. You need to work really fast and hard to get "rich" there though. If you can use your hands good and fast you make, with some jobs, up to 200 Dollars a day. If you are not prepared for the hot weather and a fast working pace, forget it! To the owner of the hostel i can only say good things, he is organizing all kind of things you can do there, for example the famous "Schnitzel Night" in the Coby Club...Cheers Warwick, I had a great time there, greets to Mac

Nomads on Murray is essentially a workers hostel. Situated 12km from the nearest township, the majority, well practically all travellers are there for one reason, to make some cash and move on swiftly. Fruit picking is never gonna make you serious money and will always be back breaking but the good side is that you're outside in the sun all day, having a laugh in a part of oz that you wouldn't think of going to and meeting a few nutty farmers along the way. The best place to do this is at Nomads on Murray. I ended up staying 5 months which isn't that long compared to some other backpackers. The reason for this is down to the atmosphere there. Because of the remoteness of the hostel everyone seems to get on pretty quickly and you will not leave without meeting a heap of new mates. Warwick is a fantastic manager and will sort you out with work and transport to it for no extra cost. The hostel's well equipped with pool, bar, volleyball court, cable tv, kitchen, internet, friday night barbies, wine tasting tours and spectacular views over the River Murray. It's a great place to stop off and make some money and a lot of new friends but word of warning don't go if you're totally skint and definately don't go in May as there is no work at all through this month. Enjoy!
