I wouldn't really class this accommodation as a hostel - its more like a homestay what with all the rules and lectures and lack of privacy! We booked Bushnook as a work hostel for 4 weeks in April and May and we were extremely unhappy with the amenities and the level of customer service. For starters, it was only after we arrived and paid that we discovered that we were tied in to a 3 week contract with the hostel, regardless of whether they could arrange any work for us or not! We were lucky, we got 5 days work a week but some other girls there only got 3 and a half - barely enough to cover the cost of the accommodation and lifts. (It was $3 each way per person to get dropped less than a mile to work, which adds 25% onto the cost of the accommodation) On top of that we discovered on arrival that we would have no access to the laundry and the internet was out of action - both of which had been selling points in us deciding to stay there. We also weren't allowed to use the bath, the grill, the kitchen sink, or blankets which had been supplied. We were not allowed to park our car outside the hostel, we had to park at the bottom of the hill and negotiate the dangerous dirt track to the hostel daily. We were not allowed to put logs on the fire if it got low so it often went out and we were left with no heating. Also, in the whole 4 weeks we were there, the bedrooms and bathroom were only serviced once. Unbelievable! The customer service was non-existent. I called to the main house 3 times to complain about the mouse infestation and the problem was never addressed. In fact, the proprietor's 16 year old daughter seems to be the one who does most of the work. Overall, the staff were unfriendly and we ended leaving with the distinct impression that we had outstayed our welcome. Would NEVER stay here again.
