BUG Review
Karoonda Park is a nice quiet rural hostel, although it does see a lot of guests -- both backpackers arriving on the Oz Experience bus and school groups. These two very distinct types of guest are kept separate though with backpackers staying in the very nice new building while the school groups stay in the older, and more institutional older building. Accommodation in the newer building is excellent and features good solid bunks with real mattresses. Both the new and old buildings are a no shoe zone.

Facilities include a climbing wall, tennis court, swimming pool as well as the usual hostel facilities such as kitchen, laundry, Internet access and TV lounge. The staff can organise rock climbing, abseiling and rafting trips.

Price
Dorm bed $24
Double room $58
Breakfast is provided for guests travelling on the Oz Experience bus

Prices are in local currency and are inclusive of all taxes.

I only stayed one night at Karoonda Park travelling with Oz Experience, but i had a great time here. The zipwire/flying fox was really good, and the rock climbing was fun, even though I was terrible at it. The evening meal was really nice, and having to wash your own dishes is not exactly a huge chore. I really enjoyed just sitting in the lodge, chatting, playing cards. It had a really relaxed atmosphere, a great place to get away from the hectic life for a few days

Want "Off the Beaten track" - well here is just the place.

To be welcomed in with a cup of tea or coffee to me is great hospitality. The lodge accommodation is some of the best I have stayed in, all timber, with log fire, stereo, board games - it has a great community feel. The free camp facilities of Karoonda Park include, tennis court, basketball, pool, tabletennis, book library, yabbying, gym weights, darts, bushwalking, videos, badminton, etc.

Horse Riding, Caving, Climbing, Abseiling, Rafting, High Country Wilderness Bushwalking trips and tours are just a few of the commercial activities that operate from here.

The Zip Wire/Flying Fox is awsome.

During my stay there I was also able to help with some cattle work on the property. .

It seems that most travellers miss out this bit, those that visit one night have a good time but are gone too soon to fully appreciate the Snowy River Country.

Karoonda Park is unique, it is the real Australia I was looking for.

I only ended up here as I was on the OZ Experience bus which stops there, and so it was not a bad night, but not the kind of place you want to stop off at on your own. There seemed to be nobody staying there, its run by a bunch of rednecks, and we had to wash our own plates and everything even though we'd forked out about $15 or whatever it was for a meal, which seems pretty harsh.
