BUG Review
This is a lovely hostel with a pleasant laid-back atmosphere and features big shady verandas overlooking the Erskine River. The place is clean and amenities include a small, but fully-equipped, kitchen and dining room with retro 1950s-style furniture. It is located above a nice café at the eastern end of town.

Excellent hostel, big balcony overlooking the river to hang out and relax on, friendly hostel staff, good selection of rooms both for singles and couples (garden rooms great for couples as are secluded and private). Close to centre of Lorne and not far from where bus drops you off. Worth staying more than one night. Would definitely recommend it!

On a trip up (or down)the Great Ocean road Lorne is one of those 'must stay' locations. However, On a long Weekend with not much accomodation left in Lorne we made a last ditch call to Erskine River Backpackers, in hope of a bed for the night. We were lucky to get a bed (as we were after a double room) and found this gem of a backpackers at the back, (and around and above, you'll see what I mean) of the Marine resturaunt and green grocers, a short 2 min walk off the main street.

On arrival we checked in (don't worry looking for the office though, there isn't one) and we were immediately welcomed in to Erskine River by the Owner Robbo and made to feel at home. Erskine River Backpackers turned out to be a large, really clean, Fun and welcoming hostel which by the end of the three days we were considering staying longer. It has great kitchen facilities, Pool table, Table Tennis, New clean showers and toilets and great verandah (deck) with views out into Lorne. There's large dorms, smaller 8 bedders, great little 4 and 6 bed garden rooms and quiet double rooms to choose from.

To find it you have to head upstairs near the carpark or use the stairs on the right of the restaraunt and just ask for Robbo. Don't be disgruntled if he's not around because he has some great friends helping out around the place and he's probably off picking fruit from his garden or whipping up a batch of his world famous "Scones".

Erskine Backpackers is the only accomodation in Lorne that doesn't adverstise and this is definately one of the reasons its a hidden gem!! Stay for a day or a night, walk into town for lunch and definately stop up at the hotel upstairs on the main street of Lorne for a beer, great views and great people.

Hope you enjoy Erskine River Backpackers and Lorne as much as we did. We made some great friends from Germany, switzerland, Britain and Ireland. The place is a magnet for great personalities and colourful people. Happy Travels and say hi to Robbo for me!!
