BUG Review
From the outside the All Nations looks run down it is an older building with peeling paint however it is not too bad inside. The common areas include a TV lounge, a small kitchen, an employment agency and a lounge area. The common areas could be cleaner but the rooms we saw were tidy with nice polished hardwood floors and tall ceilings. It has over 200 beds on three levels and dormitories have four, six and eight beds. Its on the corner of Flinders and Spencer Streets not the nicest part of town, but it is handy to most attractions and just a short walk to Southern Cross Station and the Crown casino complex.
Price Dorm bed $25-30 Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

All I wanted was a decent bed and a shower for the night.I love travel and love hostels - as long as they cover the basics. Instead, the room was filthy, stank, poor light etc. I could handle that, all I cared about was bed and shower. The shower - burning hot or freezing cold - no in between. The Bed - INFESTED WITH BEG BUGS!!!!!!You cant feel them biting you, but you can sure feel them the next day and into the next week or so. I was covered in bites that itched constantly and looked like i had a disease. it was like having the measles again. It ruined my christmas.Bed bugs are a sure sign of poor standards and the itching is horrible. I am so mad about my stay here I want to warn everyone. I have noticed other reviews saying similar things and it goes back years. I also notice the only positive reviews mention the party atmosphere. thats always a good thing but melbourne isnt exactly short on good times. As a proud Aussie, I would hate for someone arriving in Australia to have this as their first experience.DO NOT STAY HERE - There is much better hostels in melbourne for less. Plus, the noise was terrible and staff didnt care about my report of a serious fight going on between a couple that involved throwing a tv' down the stairs.Happy travels

I stayed here only one night because I had to leave early in the morning and this hostel was close to spencer street station. Its a good price for being in the city center. But its much too big and theres not much atmosphere or socializing in the hostel. It seems like quite a few people who were there were working so perhaps its a better hostel to stay at while working. THe biggest problem was the noise from traffic and trams and trains right outside and all night long, whether the windows were open or closed. I would definitly not reccomend this place to somebody whos a light sleeper. But the bar downstairs has different activities just about every night of the week, and you get a free drink upon check-in.

This may be the worst excuse for a property I have ever stayed in. The rooms are filthy and smell terrible. The showers likewise plus the floor scum. Dining and kitchen areas are alright though combined with the internet and lounge sections. The saving grace, should there be one, are that the staff are friendly if overwhelmed.

dirty, smelly, badly run and noisy, everything I didn't want from a hostel. I got bitten by bed bugs and so did many others I spoke to, luckily I found a better place up the road a bit.

What more do you need?I stayed at 5 hostels in Melbourne, and was dissatisfied with each one of them in some way. Until I discovered the All Nations and it became my home away from home, if only for a couple weeks. Yes, it's run-down. It is dingy, the dorms are poorly lit, the matresses are saggy, the bathrooms are often dirty, it gets the occasional bedbug outbreak, it's next to the noisy train and tram lines and the staff are a little useless sometimes. But the atmosphere is amazing - you can relax or party depending on your mood. The set up of the whole place makes it easy to meet people, and I made some really great friends while staying here. The dining/lounge area is a great place to chill with a book or chat all night with new friends. The bar next door is not your typical backpacker bar. No outrageous backpacker games here. Just cheap drinks (also free beer for hostel guests on sunday afternoon, and free champagne for the ladies on friday night) and decent music. They do have special nights, but nothing too crazy and overall, it's just a good place to get the evening started. The tram stops right outside and can take you directly (if slowly) to St. Kilda, Fitzroy or just around the CBD to see some sights or hit some clubs. I didn't find the location to be at all inconvenient, even though it is on the outer edge of the city center. This is the cheapest hostel that you will find in Melbourne and yeah, it's a dive. But it's also the best. If I haven't convinced you, there's also free breakfast and free use of the local gym. Give it a chance. It may take a few days, but most people grow to love this place. Some people never want to leave it and end up staying months instead of days.

This is my last hostel in Australia (b4 going to NZ!) and I quiet enjoyed my stay. It is not the newest or poshiest but it was at least $10 cheaper then any other hostel in the city and facilities were fine. In my 5 days in Melbourne I have used gym 3 times and bar all 5!!Highly recommended from me!!!!!

All Nations is problematic to review because it has some good features. Overall though its not a great place to stay.Positives: The bar is decent (if tiny). Its a good way to meet people and the entertainment is pretty good.Amenities are pretty solid: decent kitchen, work centre, tv lounge etc etc.Free gym!! This is the best thing. You get free use of the local gym which was great.Bad things (in short):Reception didnt seem to know their arse from their elbow and there were often looonngggg queues. The place resembles 'the shining' in full on horror mode... It is just rank. Many things were broken down (more toilet and showers were out of order then working). The location isnt actually all that great. The ones to the north are much better off (thou the tram is right outside). What sums it up is this: we asked for a twin room cos we were jet lagged. We specifically said we were paying more for this cos we needed sleep. So we get put in a room right next to the 24 hr train line (that shook every 5mins). Then we get woken up very early by drilling work outside our room. Bits of ceiling actually were falling around us! I thought id stumbled into Bagdhad not bloody Melborne!

We stayed at All Nations for 5 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Having its own culture with the pub and the daily activities made the whole experience soo fun! The staff like the receptionists and manager (who by the way is really cute ;p) are warm, friendly and helpful, making us feel very much at home. The toilets were surprisingly clean (they were cleaned pretty often) and adequate (we never had to wait for our turn). Our dorm room 220 was comfortable, spacious, relatively clean, and allowed for interactions among the other dorm mates from various nations. Location is accessible as it is situated next to the free city rail tram stop. Breakfast was a time to meet people and the food provided was yummmy! (Loved the oats!) The tv room had a nice, relaxing atmosphere, showed alot of movies throughout the day and was a good form of entertainment for the nights. The pub next to all nations made getting wasted really easy! (drinks were damn cheap!). All in all, a LOVELY place to stay in melbourne! :)
