There's absolutely nothing wrong with this hostel at all and quite a lot right with it. It's clean, well run and with a good atmosphere. It's a two minute walk to the tram into the city. What more could you want?

This YHA sets the benchmark of all hostels in Melbourne! its well run, clean and the staff are top notch! The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them and are happy to help out! it feels like a home away from home and isnt as institutionlised like some others. I highly recommend!

Hey!

Chapman is a good place to stay is you don't want to be right in the city. It takes about 15 minutes on the tram to get to the city so it's pretty easy and the tram stop is really close to the hostel.

The staff were really friendly and helpful - always up for a laugh!

it was all pretty clean and had just been painted... funny colours though!

The garden out the back was a good place to chill.

And one last thing when you're in Melbourne you must go to a gig or 3 if you're at all into music. There's so much awesome stuff on... check out the 'beat' magazine which they have at the hostel for a gig guide

Good location as it's very near to the tram stop. Friendly staffs and good facilities. Kitchens are well kept and clean. Toilets are clean and well maintained. There are internet facilities but rates kinda expensive. $2 for 20mins only. Excellent security. I stayed in a twin room, equipped with lockers (padlock BYO), desk, alarm clock, bed lights, heaters and fan. The twin room kinda small, could be bigger but it's very comfy. I don't mind the size cos we are out in the city most of the time. Excellent choice if you are joining tours cos most tours have pick-up points from there.

This hostel has a good location and there are good parking spaces. Security is very good, although it can feel you are inside a prison since all doors are locked especially in the evening. Twin beds are good and reasonably priced, although dorms are quite expensive. The hostel is ok, but there are a couple of things which need to be improved.

Most of the staff do not know how their booking system works. That is why you see many people moving to other rooms every moring, while this is absolutely unneccesary. Once I found the `cleaners` throwing away my luggage because staff did not communicate to them that somebody needed to store luggage in the room before it was cleaned. Unfortunately no apologies from their side, which is quite rude. Another annoying thing is that you have to pay with your creditcard if you make a booking by phone.

Staff is not very social, after 2 weeks they still treat you like you have just arrived in the hostel.

It also needs renovation, furniture is old and the place is quite soulless, something which most YHA hostels seem to have. It is quiet though.
